Thankful For Spring
Nature

Dear Spring,

Thank you for finally arriving because living in the Northeast means that winter drags on for way too long and has its moments of freezing temperatures. Instead of a blanket of snow, I cannot wait to see flowers bursting through the ground and the Earth awaken with natural beauty. It is time to switch out snow pants for flowy skirts and open-toed shoes. In addition, I can finally go explore the outdoors without the chance of getting frostbite. There is nothing I miss more in the winter time than taking hikes, being able to drive on the roads, and making plants with friends. Plus, the arrival of springtime means I am nearing the end of the school year. My freshman year has been one heck of an adventure, but I know for a fact that I am not going to miss all the work and long hours of studying.

I look forward to soaking up the sunlight and enjoying the walks to my classes. Also, my small hometown will soon have drive-in movie nights. This is one of the best ways to catch up with your friends while indulging in a movie marathon. Like I said before, nature is slowly showing its wonders during this season. Taking long walks (while stumbling over rocks with my gracefulness) is truly a pleasure. It also provides an opportunity for photographers to snap a picture of these sights and share it with the world. Once you are done exploring the wilderness, you can grab a sweet treat at Rita's or other ice cream parlor. Although, I am the strange person who enjoys ice cream no matter the temperature outside.

Yet another upside to spring is the fact that the sun actually sets at a reasonable time. I can still see outside until almost nine at night. Many people know that with this comes the joy of having bonfires. There is just something so serene about sitting around a roaring fire and possibly having some s'mores to go with it. People just seem to be in an overall better mood. They break away from the depressive state that winter can sometimes bring.

So in general, thank you spring for all the new life you will bring with you this year. Also, I cannot wait to end my freshman year on such a high note. Spring is the perfect insight to what an incredible summer this will be. I cannot wait to spend my days getting tanned and swimming in the pool. Plus, I really need to reconnect with my old high school friends because right now, my schedule is complete chaos. There are numerous things to look forward to, but for now, I am waiting for the weather to improve and the last of the snow to melt.

Sincerely,

Your Spring Fanatic

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
