What I Am Thankful For

Have you ever heard the saying "too blessed to be stressed"? You may find that saying to be silly, but it holds so much truth. The holidays are a time when I am most reflective on what to be thankful for. Despite my appreciation for a perfect cup of coffee or my obsession with shoes, there truly are more important things in life. With the chaos and stress of every college student's daily schedule, it is easy to forget about the obvious things that we should be most thankful for. Here are some blessings to keep in mind this holiday season & always.

1. Family, family, family

They always come first, no matter what. Yes, every family has their problems; no family is normal or perfect. However, they are the ones that are there for you through thick and thin. Call your parents or siblings whenever you get a chance. Appreciate them for loving you unconditionally (and just thank God that your family is not the Kardashians).

2. BFFs

Your best friends are the people that you go to when your family is driving you nuts. They do not judge you for showing up to Sunday brunch in your outfit from last night. They never get tired of hearing you vent about the same jerk over and over again (always listen to them if they do not approve, because they're probably right). They are always down for "Sex & the City" marathons. They do not judge your sick addiction to Chipotle... in fact, they encourage it. They would be there in a heartbeat if you needed a shoulder to cry on. What would you do without them?

3. Home

There's nothing like the comfort of going home for a holiday break or a weekend getaway. It's the little things: sleeping in your own bed, cuddling with your dog, going to your favorite café or even driving past places where you used to get in trouble as a teenager (sorry, Mom and Dad). Whenever you go home, there's a sweet nostalgia about the place where you grew up. It had a part in shaping you into who you are and forever holds a place in your heart.

4. Learning

I am forever grateful for my college education. Whenever I pick classes for the upcoming semester, I am overwhelmed by how many interesting class choices are offered for every major. College students are very fortunate to receive all kinds of knowledge by learning about the world around them. Intelligence truly is power and gives young people the opportunity to prepare for their future. So, go ahead — embrace your inner-nerd and immerse yourself in your studies while you can.

5. Food

Pizza... that's all.

6. Dogs

If you ever meet someone who says they are not a "dog person," then they are not your friend. Dogs are bundles of joy that provide happiness to everyone in their path. I have been lucky enough to grow up with numerous canine pets who were all a part of the family. Don't get me wrong — cats are chill, but dogs just have such an affectionate energy to them. When dogs are excited, they show how pumped they are to be around you... by licking your face. They are fluffy companions that love to snuggle with you and they never let you down. I am grateful for pups.

7. Nature

I've always had a huge appreciation for the earth. Whether it's the ocean or the mountains, nature is all around just waiting to be embraced. From swimming in the sea to skiing through snow, there are so many reasons to be thankful for the outdoors. The beauty of the sun rising over the mountains and setting over the lake truly gives me the feels. Take a hike — you won't regret the view from the top.

8. Health

Is your heart beating right now? You are breathing, which means you have enough health to simply be alive. Be thankful for your life.

Creating your schedule for the upcoming semester can be an exciting process. You have the control to decide if you want to have class two-days a week or five-days a week. You get to check things off of your requirement checklist. It's an opportunity for a fresh start with new classes (which you tell yourself you'll never skip.) This process, which always starts out so optimistic, can get frustrating really quickly. Here are 25 thoughts you have when registering for classes.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.

11 Times Aubrey Plaza Described Sophomore Year

"I don't want to do things. I want to do not things."

Aubrey Plaza is one of my favorite humans in Hollywood. She's honest, blunt, unapologetic, and hilarious. I just started my sophomore year of college, and found that some of her best moments can accurately describe the start of the school year.

1. When your advisor tells you that you should declare a major soon.

2. Seeing the lost and confused freshmen and remembering that was you a short year ago, and now being grateful you know the ins and outs of the campus.

3. Going to the involvement fair to sign up for more clubs knowing that you are already too involved.

4. When you actually do the reading required for the first class.

5. Seeing your friends for the first time since last semester.

6. When you're already drowning in homework during syllabus week.

7. Realizing you don't have the same excitement for classes as you did as a freshman.

8. Going home and seeing people from high school gets weirder the older you get.
