Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays of the year; that is because it is the day my brother was brought into this world 14 years ago. To me, Thanksgiving is about cherishing the people you have in your life. It is a time that allows all of the family and loved ones to get together and celebrate the great things in their life.
I have made the decision to quit social media this week, to allow myself to be present and aware of the real things I have in life. The society that we live in is inundated by connection through social media. It is the tool we use to feel connected to more people and stay updated on other people's lives. The problem with this is that sometimes social media can overpower real, face to face interactions with people. I have decided to apply more energy to my personal interactions, and the people who are physically in my life. It has already been 4 days without social media and I have found myself so much more thankful for the people who spend time with me.
Without social media, the only way to feel connected to people is through spending time together. Taking a break from social media this week has brought me great perspective and so much more time to enjoy my family and friends company.
