hanksgiving, as wonderful as it is, can be rough sometimes, particularly for those who are grieving. Even if it's simply the stress of finals coming up, it can be difficult to take a break to focus on gratitude. As I grow and learn, I learn more and more the importance of thankfulness, especially taking time to thank God the amazing things He has given us. In light of that, here are 15 things I'm thankful for this year. I encourage you make a list of things you're thankful for as well (yes, more than the one things you're asked to share around the Thanksgiving table).

1. Romans 8

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:37-39)

To be "more than a conqueror" and inseparable from God's love gives assurance and confidence in times of transition and trials.

2. My handsome fiance

Wow, God has blessed me with him! He has shown me unending faithfulness, love, patience, and vulnerability. A wonderful leader, inspiring worker, and faithful friend, I'm thankful to walk through life with him.

3. Memories

This is the first holiday season without my loving Grandfather. Though it be hard, I am so thankful for the treasured memories I have of flying model airplanes, playing with teddy bears, and talking about books with him.

4. Corban Chapel

I so appreciate the community Corban provides, especially the intentional times of corporate worship. Being supported by my brothers and sisters in Christ encourages me weekly.

5. Neighbors

I'm grateful for neighbors who drop their cutie pie for me to babysit and for letting me walk the two best huskies in the world.

6. Nieces

I'm now claiming my fiance's nieces as mine two because they're absolutely adorable and brighten many, many days. Shout-out to their parents who do an incredible job raising all three girls!

7. Broadway Coffeehouse

It's the perfect place for studying, for date night, and for running into everyone you've every met- what could be better?

8. Authors

I'm grateful for creative authors who impart great wisdom in whimsical stories to ease a textbook-weary student like me.

9. Compassion International

I'm grateful for a God-honoring, organization with financial integrity that allows me to love the most precious little girl.

10. Salem Dream Center

This is hands down one of the best organizations I've ever worked with. I've been welcomed in like family there and love hanging out with all the kids- loving every one of them until they ask why.

11. Friends

Duh-right? Friends with which I can be vulnerable and those who hold me accountable are truly treasured.

12. Sisters

They let me borrow clothes, they listen to my "problems", they support me to the end. Thanks beauties! I love you!

13. Cuties

These fruity gems make Autumn/Winter a little brighter and better. They taste delicious and are perfectly snackable- how perfect!

14. Family Traditions

I'm grateful for sweet memories of watching White Christmas while decorating the Christmas tree, hot chocolate on late start mornings, and vacations at the coast. These were treasured times.

15. Peace

As I look to the future with great anticipation, I'm grateful for God's peace present in all situations and unknowns. He is such a good Father and is faithful to take care of us- even in unexpected ways.

Happy Thanksgiving friends! Enjoy the gifts you have received.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
