When it feels like the last four months of your life have handed you blow after blow, the hardest thing to do is think about the things you're thankful for. But that is exactly when you need to think about what you're thankful for.
It's so important when you're struggling to remind yourself of what you have and what you're living for — even when you're hurt, disappointed or tired.
1. My mom
Do you know how many times I text my mom ranting about something or freaking out about my daily crisis so she can calm me down? I have a whole new appreciation for this woman.
2. Music
My favorite thing to do when I've been upset recently is to just drive around and listen to sad music. It's really comforting to hear songs that say exactly what you're thinking or feeling.
3. My best friends
On my worst days, the things that have made me feel better have been going out and laughing with my friends. It means a lot to have people who remind you that you're loved and that they will always be there for you no matter what.
4. Randomly nice people
I sit next to a girl in my creative writing class and she easily makes my day every time I go to class. I have no idea what her name is, and I don't even think she knows mine, but sitting next to her and talking to her every day has been the highlight of my semester.
5. The holidays
Do I even need to explain this one?
6. Having good work friends
Working with people who also become your good friends is so underrated. Your co-workers really determine whether or not you like your job, and I got really lucky with mine. Even when I was stressed beyond belief and my workload was insane, the girls I work with made me enjoy being there.
7. God
I've written entire other articles about this. Long story short, I wouldn't have gotten through any of the things that I have without having my faith.
8. My personal growth
I've grown so much the past year and I am so proud of myself! I have become patient, forgiving, strong, and graceful. This wouldn't have happened if I would not have struggled.
I've become so proud of the way I handle my pain.
No matter what you're going through, there's always something to be thankful for. It is important to recognize these things, especially when you are struggling.
