When I began college, myself and the rest of the freshman class were required to take multiple surveys and questionnaires that asked us a variety of questions pertaining to the transition to college. The one question that I always had the same answer for was, “What are you most worried about?” My answer was always, “making friends.” My family and close friends back home will often describe me as outgoing and personable, but when it comes to being in a completely new environment surrounded by unfamiliar faces, I shy away. I worried that I would not find a group of friends that shared common interests as me or would accept me for me. Thankfully, my worries have gone away.
To the girls,
I always had a small group of girlfriends and I am glad to have found my small group here in college. Each one of you are unique in your own way, just as any of us are. But what I love about our small group is that each of us are so involved in our own things on campus that it allows us to talk about so many different aspects of college life. Although we are each different, I value our friendship as a group as we can all relate to a common goal, which is success through hard work and fun within the limits. I love our story time and the laughs we share. Your help picking what to wear to Prime and your help with pre-calculus is always appreciated. Thank you for making me feel at home here.
To the guys,
I was never the girl in high school that had a lot of guy friends. My friend group consisted of roughly 10 people. I am not sure what it was but that group did not consist of guys. Here in college, that has been different. I honestly love hanging out with you guys. You allowing me to play sports with you has made me feel like a part of your team. I know my basketball shots make you laugh and my defense is a weak, but I appreciate the competitive nature we all share. The late night drives around High Point and the laughs are what I look forward to every weekend. I never know what you guys have in store for me every time we hang out. I thank you for allowing me to be a part of your squad.
It may only be the first month of our college lives but I tell you this, I am thankful to have met each of you for you have made this experience worth it.
