A few months ago, I decided to do something that took a lot of people by surprise: I decided to become a writer for the Penn State Odyssey community.
The only reason people close to me were confused as to why I decided to do this is because I've never really come across as the artistic or expressive type. Being in a science major, I've always been of a more technical and problem-solving mind.
This was my whole reasoning for deciding to write for Odyssey in the first place. I wanted to do something outside my comfort zone and use a different part of my brain. To be honest, I hadn't written a paper since my freshman college English class, as all my classes typically involved math problem sets or science related derivatives.
Writing for Odyssey has been a great experience for me. I got to express my own thoughts on topics important to me as well as prove to myself that I can be artistic in my own way.
I got a lot of surprisingly good feedback too. On many occasions, my friends and family would commend me on how fun my articles were to read... What a confidence boost for me!
I won't be continuing with Odyssey, as I truly have learned that my brain is more wired to focus on solving an equation rather than getting out my thoughts on paper.
However, Odyssey has taught me that you can truly do anything you set your mind to no matter what that may be.
And so, I want to say "thank you" to Odyssey. Thank you for the experience and the skills I learned along the way. I will continue to keep up with Odyssey and read the articles posted by the peers in my community and know that in some way I too, will always be a part of Odyssey.
