To My Unexpected Best Friend

To my friend who I never knew would turn out to be my best friend,

We've known each other for years and spent countless moments together. Growing up in the same neighborhood, with our parents being friends, we were often around each other. We were friends but hung out in different friend groups all throughout our middle and high school years. There were countless lunches and shopping trips with our moms. But I had no idea how much of an influence on my life that you would truly make.

Fast forward to freshman year of college, we're neighbors in the dorms and still friends but still haven't realized the impact on each other that we would eventually have. You transferred to another school and we both got caught up in the college life. We didn't talk much and really only saw each other when we came home to visit our moms. Then something happened - our lives both changed from the path that we had originally planned. What we wanted and hoped for was no longer in front of us. But guess what? Everything turned out for the better and now, here we are. Happier than ever doing things that we never imagined.

Who would have thought that when we met in fifth grade that we would end up as roommates in the city and quickly becoming best friends? I sure didn't. I had no idea. But here we are, almost 12 years later and you are one of the greatest friends that I have ever had.

Thank you for the constant laughs and constant encouragement. Thank you for always being ready to grab your wallet and go shopping with me. Thanks for supporting my addiction to shopping. Thanks for having the same expensive taste as me and sharing a wardrobe with me. Thanks for loving food just as much as me and always being willing to go to dinner or to get ice cream. Thanks for listening to my complaining after a long day or about boys that are stupid. Thanks for being there whenever I need you. Thanks for the ugly Snapchats and nights on the town. Thanks for always being my subject for my projects. Thanks for sitting in my room with me and goofing off for hours. Thanks for celebrating my cats birthday with me. But most importantly, thanks for being my best friend that I never expected.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
