Uber, first of all, is a wonderful idea that has probably saved thousands of people from driving while under the influence and prevented accidents. For this, I would like to say thank you.
Most people simply order an uber, hop in the car, maybe exchange a few words, and then treat the experience like a taxi ride. Recently, however, I have ridden in an uber, by myself, and have met some incredible people.
These uber drivers have family and loved ones just like the rest of us. They make a living or a side job out of safely transporting people to wherever they may need to go. Uber drivers open up their personal car to hundreds of people they do not know and probably have a few horror stories to tell about drunken or lustful passengers.
Having gotten the opportunity to have one on one conversations with about four uber drivers in the past few days, I am so thankful to have people in this world that care about my safety and are kind and respectful enough to make my ride with them as enjoyable and comfortable as possible. Whether they made sure to have conversation with me throughout the drive, listened to me vent, asked me if the air in the car was alright, offered me water or a mint, or even offered to wait an extra few minutes so I didn’t have to call a different uber, these people deserve proper recognition.
Be kind to your uber driver. They are taking you where you need to go in the most efficient and safe manner as they can. Say thank you and do not take their additional kindness for granted.
