My mom always told me never to talk to strangers, but I did. (Sorry, Mom). Sure, messaging random girls in your university freshman class Facebook page and asking if they want to live with you may seem a bit strange at first, but it’s the beginning of something life-changing. Some people have bad luck with the people they find to room with, but for me, I feel like the luckiest person in the world. Everything I’ve been through, my roommates have been here right beside me, and for that I owe them everything.
At first I didn’t know how much our friendship would impact my life. We texted here and there over the summer, but never really got a chance to connect until the day we moved in. After welcome weekend, we had the time of our lives and grew together as a trio. I knew I had made the right decision to room with you as I stepped away from the person I was tired of being in high school and opened up to being the best version of myself in college. Without your help, I wouldn't be who I am today.
Not only did you see me at my best, but you were there for me at my worst. From late night tears, getting bad tests back, and a long Friday night in the hospital, you were right there by my side. You know more about me than anyone else, and I confide all my trust in you. You have showed me the true meaning of friendship and what being a friend really is. You would go to the ends of the earth for me and nothing I could ever say or do could show how truly thankful I am for you.
As the semester gets closer and closer to the end, I wonder what it’ll be like when we don’t share a room anymore. I’ll miss being slap-happy and recording videos only we think are funny for our Snapchat stories right before we go to bed, or talking about how good food sounds at such a late hour. I’ll miss all the laughs, cackles, and knee-slappers that kept us sane.
From the begging till the end, I can honestly say you are the best friends I have ever had. Thank you for: Your advice, your laughs, your help, your encouragement, your clothes, your mini steamer, your shoes, and lastly, for being my people. From one roommate to another, I love you guys.
