It seems as though many young girls and women have it in their minds that finding an honest and good man is something they will never achieve. While I agree that a true gentleman may be hard to find, I can say that they are indeed out there. Luckily, I have managed to find one for myself and for that I am very grateful. There are two people in particular to whom I owe a thank you: my boyfriend’s parents. I know that without you, he would not have become the man that he is. I don’t have to tell you that you have an amazing son, I’m certain you already know this, but I do want to write a thank you letter for it.

First, I want to thank you for raising him to be a gentleman with manners. I distinctly remember one of our first dates going to the movies. Matt arrived and I walked outside to meet him. It was dark, and we nearly bumped into each other in the driveway. He had gotten out and was coming to the door to get me; something I had forgotten that guys are supposed to do. He then went on to open the car door for me and has continued to be nothing less than a true gentleman ever since. He never has an ill word to say to me, is always doing things to better our relationship, and is always courteous.

I also want to thank you for showing him what love is supposed to look like. I know that it is through your own love for each other that he learned how to love someone himself. On Easter Sunday we accompanied you to church and I watched as you held hands in the front seat and complimented each other. I realized then that he has always had such wonderful influences for how a relationship is supposed to work. I have watched you two respect and cherish each other, and in turn Matt has always respected me in every way. We both have learned – from you and from my own parents – that love, when done right, is beautiful, kind, and righteous.

There are very few words to describe the happiness that I get from standing in church every Sunday with Matt by my side. To be able to worship, pray, and celebrate God’s love is a beautiful thing and I have no doubt that he learned it from you. I thank you for raising him to be a Christian man with values and morals. We always pray before we eat, something I see his father do before every meal. He has always put God first and is always praising Him with all that he has. Thank you for showing what it means to be hardworking and honest.

You have not only been good to Matt, but also to me. I thank you for extending so much love and acceptance to me over the past 7 months. The first night I met you guys, I was so nervous that I wouldn’t make a good impression. But from the second I sat down, I felt welcomed and comfortable. Since then, you have shown me so much love and kindness and I am so grateful for both of you. I hope that, as Matt and my relationship grows, that you and I can continue to grow closer as well. Thank you so much for everything you have done for us. I promise to always give the love, respect, and kindness that your son deserves. Always remember I am praying for both you and him.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
