A Thank You To My Best Friend's Parents

You're the families that chose me, and I will love you forever for that.

A Thank You To My Best Friend's Parents
Julia Guerin

I, like many others, have friends. They have their own parents, but if you're lucky like I am, your friend's parents become parents to you as well. These parent-like figures are some of the best people in your life, and often because they aren't your real parents you forget to thank them for everything they do for you.

Thank you for welcoming me into your home.
I mean really thank you for all of the sleepovers, and couch sitting, and setting my place at the dinner table. Because I do have my own place at your dinner table. Also, thank you for not making me knock on the door anymore, and for not kicking me out when I just let myself into your house!

Thank you for listening when I need you to.
Sometimes there are things that are easier to talk about with your extra-parents than your real ones. You're always around to listen when I need you to, and provide some well needed advice. I love that you are willing to help me at any point I need you.

Thank you for always feeding me when I'm hungry.
This is a big one. Thank you for the countless breakfasts, lunches, and dinners that you have provided me with. I can only imagine how much money you have spent feeding me since I'm ALWAYS at your house. I am also thankful you know what I like to eat, and will sometimes plan what's cooking based on if I'm joining for dinner or not.

Thank you for letting me into your family.
I know how hard it is to just let someone into your family, so I'm grateful that you thought I was good enough to make the cut. Seriously, you never get to pick your blood relatives, so I'm thrilled you picked me to have as "your other daughter." I mean you treat me just like your own children, and getting mail from you while I'm away is the best (because I totally do miss you just as much as my own parents)!

Thank you for celebrating my victories with me.
You were just as excited when I got into college as my own parents were. You have always been there to celebrate the big and little things with me. Whether it's a congratulations text or hug you are always looking for another reason to celebrate!

Thank you for caring just as much as my parents do about me.
Nothing is cooler than having people love and care about you. I love that you always check in on me, and it's not just to be polite. You are always willing to put down anything to help me and that is such a comfort knowing you have my best interest at heart.

Sometimes I forget to thank you for all of the things you do. You are the unsung heroes, and my world would not be the same without you. I'm so lucky to have you has my second parents! I love you!

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.

What's up Asshat,

I've composed a list of things that I wish upon you, and they're harsh and cruel. These things are things that I wouldn't wish upon my worst of enemies, not even that Starbuck's barista who always screws up my order, not even him. You fall into a whole other category of hate. You surpass Starbucks barista. Congratulations, I'm actually a pretty nice person, making you worthy of every single bit of torture I wish upon you. What are these things I wish upon you you might ask?
