To My Best Friend

Where on Earth would I be without you and your shenanigans?

To my best friend,

Where do I even begin? You have been my best friend for I don't even know how many years now, and I wouldn't have it any other way. We have been through the thick and thin with each other, and our friendship has only grown stronger. We always joke that neither of us really remember how we became friends...we just were. All of a sudden, you were waiting by my locker for me after school because we always walked out together. We would talk and text each other literally 24/7. Then came our endless Friday nights we spent roller skating to our favorite emo songs and laughing until one of us nearly peed themselves.

You have always been the first person I called when anything happened in my life. Whether it be happy or sad, you were always there for me. Especially if it was a disastrous first date and I forced you to get out of bed to come cringe with me until 4am on your front porch. We have so many inside jokes it drives everyone mad (most even think we're mad) and we can exchange them in just a glance. The most random things can send us both into a giant fit of giggles (maple syrup, "oof," "mmph") that no one understands. Your porch swing has become our spot where we spend every summer night just talking about our lives and you listen to me go on and on about cute boys I like.

It can be a day, week, or month before we hang out again and nothing ever changes and we have so many things to tell each other (if we can even remember any of it). When we do hang out it always somehow ends up a mess with both of us laughing so hard we're crying and there's wet corn starch all over the floor. We are so close that even a psychic referred to you as my sister. You have always been able to tell if something's up just by the tone of my voice, and sometimes you just know exactly what is going on.

To my best friend, thank you. Thank you for just being you. Who knows where I would be without you. I have learned so much from you over the years, and you have helped me in so many ways. I can't wait until we actually are the two old ladies drinking coffee in Dunkin Donuts. I love you, bro.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
