A Thank You Letter To My Big Brother

You didn't have a choice to have me as a sister, but you did choose to have me as a best friend.

A Thank You Letter To My Big Brother
MJ Wobser

Dear Big Brother,

When it comes to siblings, I honestly couldn't consider myself more blessed. I love how close we are, and how much I'm able to share with you. A lot of siblings really couldn't say the same. I just want to thank you for all you do for me, for always being there, and for being one of my very best friends, even though you didn't have to be.

Thank you for always being someone I can rely on. When I'm struggling to get through the week, or want to get away from college life and talk about superheroes and movies, I know you're the person I can call. You always try your hardest to cheer me up, and if you can't, you offer just some sweet sympathy and love, which is so greatly appreciated. It's nice to know I have that extra branch of support.

Thank you for always including me. Back in high school, when I was a tiny, dorky freshman, and you were an accomplished senior, you never hesitated to invite me to hang out with your friends, or offer to let me tag along to movie premieres or game nights. Words can't express how incredibly grateful I always was for that. I never really felt like I fit in, especially regarding theater, until you stepped in and let me be the tag-along. Because of that, I was able to form a few friendships that I know will last a lifetime, and I was able to get so much closer to you.

Thank you for allowing me to be one of your best friends. We've always had a good relationship, but we didn't get super close until we were both in high school. Even then, you didn't have to let me in or tolerate my freshman problems. But you did. I was able to open up to you more, and you introduced me to things that shaped who I became. While we were in high school, we formed a pretty awesome, unbreakable bond that couldn't be altered by distance or different paths of life. Both back then and today, I considered you one of my best friends, and I think that's pretty awesome. You didn't have a choice to have me as a sister, but you did choose to have me as a best friend. I can't thank you enough for that.

Thank you for being someone I can look up to. You've done amazing things, and never cease to inspire me, whether it be onstage or in academic settings. You were never afraid to be who you were, and never tried to hide it from anyone. You're a genuine person, and you care a lot about the people you're close to. You're a hard worker, and you're determined. Even when you got off track with your plan, you didn't stop. You just adjusted and made your own way.

Bubba, you inspire me every day, and if I'm half the person you are when I'm older, I'll consider myself forever blessed. I love you very much. That, you can always count on.

Love always,

Your Little Sister

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
