On Father's Day and every day, it's important that we take time to appreciate the fathers we have been blessed with in this life. Now, I'm not just talking about Dad (even though he is pretty dang awesome). I'm talking about dad along with grandpas, uncles and the father to us all, God. Although this day is generally "all about Dad," I think it's important to remember all the fathers that impact our lives in one way or another, so that they never forget how much they mean to us. So let's take the time to say thank you to them today and to remember to be appreciative of them every day.
Thank you, Grandpa
Thank you for always having a smile on your face whenever you're around. You're goofy, and you tend to make my tough days a lot more fun. Thank you for pretending and imagining with me, despite my age. Thank you for all the wonderful old stories of "back in the day" that you've shared with me over the years. They have even taught me some lessons in their own way. Thank you for always sneaking me that extra cookie, when Grandma said I could only have one or it'd spoil my dinner. Thank you for teaching me new things and showing me how to do things I never thought I'd learn to do. Thank you for being the fishing and golfing connoisseur you are and even telling me some of your tricks. Thank you for being a hardworking role model and showing me what kind of life I want to live. Thank you for being the newspaper-reading, snoring in his recliner during every movie grandpa you are. You're the best.
Thank you, big guy in the sky
You're not just a father to me, but rather a father to the whole world, and somehow you're still the biggest blesser of all. I say my prayers at night and give my appreciation, but that could never be enough to return you for all the things you do for me. Thank you for constantly blessing me each and every day with amazing people and amazing opportunities. Thank you for giving me the guidance I need in this life and sticking with me through all of the moments I've let you down. Thank you for continuing to show me that miracles happen every day and giving me a peace of mind each night when I lay down safely in my bed. Thank you for being the father who blessed me with all the fathers down here who have continued to support me and show me I am loved. No amount of gratitude could ever be enough, but I know you don't need it to be.
Thank you, Daddy
I don't even know where to begin with you because I have far too much to thank you for. I guess I'll start with a thank you for being my go-to guy. Whether it be a problem I can't solve on my math homework, my toy car with a broken wheel or I just can't get high enough on the swing, you're my go-to guy. "Dad, the remote won't work again." But somehow you, Mr. Fix-It, manage to pick it up and find the problem right away. So thank you for being able to fix anything under the sun. Even if it's not so much an object as it is a broken heart accompanied by an upside down smile.
You're also the go-to guy for not just me, but for your family and your friends. Your given ability to do everything and help everyone make things work again is something I can only wish to acquire as I get older because I look up to you so much for it. Thank you for without a doubt being my best friend. From being 7 years old to now, you're still my favorite person to go to a water park with. That being said, you're still my favorite person to do anything with. It doesn't matter if you're just going to get the part you need at the store or if you're going to Disney World. I just want to be along for the ride. Thank you for letting me dance on your feet at wedding receptions and picking me up while twirling me around. Thank you for teaching me almost everything I know because, as everybody knows, you know everything. Thank you for giving me interest in almost all of the things I like and do now, and thank you for helping support those things. Thank you for coaching my teams every year and learning all you could about that sport, just so I'd get better. Thank you for being on the fence cheering at every game and always talking with me after about what I did well and what I could improve upon. Thank you so much for always telling me how to improve, especially when it came to life and it's choices. Thank you for buying me all the things I wanted, but also teaching me how to always be appreciative of those things. You're a pretty darn good lesson teacher, ya know that? Thank you for taking me on vacations and spending endless hours in the hotel swimming pool even though you were really tired. Thank you for being an awesome cook and grill master (even though it makes everybody else's food taste not up to par). Thank you for giving me an idea of what I want my life to look like when I'm older and for showing me the steps on how to get there. Thank you for being my hero, role model and best friend. Thank you for teaching me everything I know, showing me the ropes and picking me up when I fall. Thank you for carrying me to bed when I fell asleep in the car, for giving me a reason to always feel safe and for being the best dang dad out there. That being said, it's an understatement to say you're my most favorite person in the whole wide world, and I love you.
On Father's Day, we tend to take a little time out of our busy lives to buy a card and take dad golfing. But instead, why don't we take as much time as we can every day, to show not just our dads, but all of the fathers in our lives, how much they teach us, care for us and mean to us. So to all of the fathers in my life, today and every day, I can't thank you enough for all you do for me and all that you will do for me in this lifetime. I'm really glad you're the ones I got stuck with. Happy Father's Day!
