At the end of another sports season, it's typical to experience a plethora of bittersweet thoughts: resentment, relief, joy, nostalgia, nausea at the thought of another Subway sandwich or pre-sunrise workout. Most of my thoughts are centered on those who have been there throughout the whole experience — my teammates.
Thank you for being my human pillow during our long bus rides. For making sure I'm awake for the 7 A.M. workouts and 6 A.M. departure times (and for your patience with my grumpiness at these times), for letting me add some laundry to your load when I run out of socks, and for sharing your favorite snacks with me.
Thanks for not laughing (too hard) when I mess up so badly that I look like I've never played this sport before, for going late with me after practice when I need some extra time, and for secretly making fun of our coaches with me.
Thank you for understanding and appreciating the great parts and the terrible parts of this sport when my parents and other friends can't. Thank you for being my shoulder to cry on after the heartbreaking losses and for being my first high fives after the exhilarating victories. Thank you for demonstrating your heart, perseverance, and dedication that make me love this team and work to get better.
Thank you for being some of my best friends, for creating cherished memories with me, and for staying loyal to this sport and this team. Thank you for making this season unforgettable. I can't wait for the next one.
