Thank You, Summer

Because it was much-needed and I'm very appreciative.

Thank You, Summer

And as the final days of summer come to an end, it's safe to say I'm ready to be back at school. But don't get me wrong; this summer has been much-needed and very enjoyable. It's always nice to have a bit of a break from everyone and everything. So thank you, Summer, for…

1. Refilling my debit card.

After a summer of working, I'm no longer a broke college student constantly relying on my parents for money... until December at least.

2. Giving me some me time.

When you're constantly surrounded by people at college, sometimes you often forget the importance of having time to yourself.

3. Giving me free time.

With the constant activities and obligations at school, sometimes there's no time to do the things you love.

4. Letting me sleep in.

Amen. I don't know how I'm going to prepare for the 2 a.m. bedtimes and 8 a.m. wakeups.

5. Being back with my friends and family.

It was nice being back with those who were missed when I was gone.

6. Vacation.

Because everyone loves a nice trip exploring.

7. Actual food.

As we all know, Greencastle is not known for it's finest dining. Home-cooked meals and unlimited restaurant options were great to choose from these past few months.

8. A little bit of color.

Everyone loves having a good tan... or sunburn.

9. Fun festivities and adventures.

There's so much to do during the summer that just isn't the same during the other seasons. Lake days, outdoor concerts, running outside, Jeep drives.

10. A bit of a cleanse.

DePauwty goes hard; I definitely appreciated the break from going out. But don't get me wrong; I'm missing/totally ready.

11. Making me realize how much I love my school.

Usually I would dread the day when I'd have to return back to school; now, I can't wait.

12. Making my icecream addiction okay

Because summer is the only time it's decently acceptable to eat ice cream every night. The perfect treat when its hot out...as for me, it's good anytime.

13. Catching me up on my favorite shows

Sometimes at school I have no time to watch some of my favorite shows. Over the summer though, I get to binge through them all...and even some extras. Thank God for Netflix.

14. Letting me be active

I love working out and staying in shape. Over the summer, this is so much easier on a day to day basis. Whether it's running, walking, going on a bike ride, swimming, or anything. Getting outside and being active is much more enjoyable when the weather is nice.

15. Back to school shopping

I love to shop, and going back to school just gives me another reason/excuse to buy a new wardrobe of clothes for the fall!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
