A Thank You Note To My Planner

To my beautiful, treasured planner,

First of all, I just want to say thank you for appearing in my life. Now that I've got you I honestly don't know how I used to get along without you. I think back on the days of high school and even my first couple of years of college and shudder, trying to remember how I managed to get all my assignments in and to-do lists completed on time. I have no idea how I knew when my events were, because I never wrote them down anywhere, and I had nowhere to dump all of the crazy thoughts swirling around in my brain at any given moment. I was a complete, stressed mess and I don't know how I made it through that jungle and came out alive on the other side.

And then, I was introduced to the wonderful world of planning and all that it encompassed, and I was forever changed. I searched long and hard to find the perfect planner, one that would help me organize my life and not feel completely overwhelmed every time I looked at it. You appeared out of nowhere, and I was eager to get my hands on you and load you with all of my musings. When you finally arrived at my house, I couldn't wait and instantly began playing around with you, making you colorful and full of life. Now your pages are filled to the brim with trackers, appointments, pictures, and stickers, and I couldn't be happier with our relationship.

Thank you for giving me a place to get out some of my energy. I find that writing in everything I have going on each day is like a bit of therapy, and I love that you give me so much room for imagination. I'm grateful that you have provided me with an outlet for my perfectionism, and that you allow me to expand my doodling skills without judging me for the fact that I am an adult with a penchant for markers and colored pens.

Thank you for being so much more than just a place to write in my homework and schedule. You have given me a space to journal, a place to write out my goals and how best to achieve them, and a spot for endless amounts of lists. You have provided me with somewhere to come up with crazy ideas and somewhere to reflect on them when they don't quite go as planned. You have allowed me so much room for freedom of expression, which is a wonderful thing to have when you have a brain as crammed full as I do, and for that I am indebted.

Finally, thank you for helping me keep my life together. Every day is a new adventure with different victories and challenges, and it's such a relief knowing I have a place to put everything that comes my way. If I didn't I probably would go crazy. Through you, I have been able to overcome a lot of potential obstacles, simply by using your pages to make tasks more manageable. This has been tremendously helpful with all of the things going on in my life right now. All I can really say is thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you, little book of wonders, for making it all easier.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
