Thank You, Mom

Without you, I wouldn't be who I am today.

Dear Mom,

I miss you so much. Being away from you is harder than I ever imagined. I thought I was ready to move away and be on my own, but I miss you every day. I miss seeing your warm smile every morning, and I miss the hugs you gave me every afternoon when you got home from work. There are so many things I want to say to you, things I don’t say enough.

Mom: thank you for everything you do for me.

Thank you for being selfless.

You’ve always put me and Cameron before yourself. By working hard and making sacrifices, you’ve taught us it’s important to prioritize others before yourself and take others' needs into account. I can’t thank you enough for all the sacrifices and hard work you put in to give me and Cameron a great childhood growing up. We’re so lucky to have you as a mom.

Thank you for being honest.

Sometimes brutally honest. Even if it isn’t what I want to hear, you know it’s in my best interests. I know I can always count on you for an honest opinion, and I’m really grateful for that. Honesty isn’t a quality a lot of people possess, but it’s a quality I value in you.

Thank you for guiding me.

Even though I’m 18 and I’m supposed to be an adult now, it’s clear that I still need your guidance. Thank you for guiding me, whether it be a small thing like whether or not I should buy something at the mall, or a big thing like declaring a major. Your guidance and support means the world to me, and it always will.

Thank you for raising me right.

I like to think that I turned out pretty well, thanks to you. You raised me and Cameron to be polite, kind and selfless - just like you. You taught us to have strong morals and values. Because of everything you taught me, I grew up knowing how to treat people right. I think that’s such an important life skill to have.

Thank you for having girls days with me.

Growing up, I didn’t have a sister to spend time with. We are the only girls in the family, and days we spent together, just you and me, meant the world to me. They were days when we could talk about anything and everything, and just spend time together and enjoy each other's company. Thank you for those days.

Thank you for being my best friend.

We haven’t always seen eye to eye on everything; you and I are polar opposites in almost everything. But now that I’m older, I realize that you are my very best friend - the best friend I’ll ever have. I can’t thank you enough for being my best friend. I love you.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
