Mom,
It’s ironic how growing up, you always told me, “I am your mother, not your friend.” But looking back now, I can honestly say, you have become not only my friend, but also my best friend. I am so thankful that I can call you from 1,400 miles away and you will pick up the phone and have an hour long conversation with me about anything. I can go to you for gossip, situational advice and everything in between just to catch up.
I just want you to know that no one could ever replace you in the world and I’m so grateful to have grown up under your roof with you as my mom. Not only have you taught me the most basic things such as manners, but the smallest but most meaningful life lessons. I can’t even begin to explain how much you’ve made an impact on me but I hope you realize that I look up to you more than you’ll ever know. No matter how much I make you want to “throw me through a wall” or make you want to “pull your hair out,” I’ll always love you.
Through all the hardships and tears, I aspire to have the type of strength you have. No matter what you’re going through, you always paste a smile on your face and don’t let it affect the people around you. But it’s so much more than that. The way, you put everyone before yourself even when you may need the help and support more, is so inspiring. You are one of the best role models in my life and I can only hope I’m half the person you are when I’m older.
I know I may not show my appreciation for you all the time but college has made me realize how great it is to have your mom as your best friend because even on my worst days, they’re good days because I have you.
I love you always.
