Dear Mom And Dad

Thank you for these past four years.

Dear Mom And Dad

Dear Mom and Dad,

Words cannot describe how thankful I am for you guys, and I can’t thank you enough for giving me the opportunity to attend Florida State University. Thank you for being the best support system I could ask for these past four years, and for always encouraging me to do my best.

I remember the day you guys dropped me off for my first semester like it was yesterday. We were all standing outside of the Degraff gravel parking lot trying to hide our tears, unknown of what was to come. I remember being so excited to embark on this journey, but so scared because I had never spent more than a week away from you guys. Even though it was hard at times, thank you for making the transition into college so easy and for always reminding me that you were just a phone call away.

Through all the ups and downs that college brought me, you guys were always there for me whenever I needed it. Any time I needed a break from this town, you guys welcomed me home with open arms and a home cooked meal. You were there for me for every failed test, stupid boy drama, mental breakdowns and I can’t thank you enough for that.

You both are two of the most selfless people that I know, and I admire you for that. You guys not only sent me to college, but I also had the opportunity to attend it with my best friend and sister. Thank you for sacrificing so much in order to send us both to the best University in the world. I know having two kids in college, and one on the way was difficult, but like always you guys put us first and did whatever it took in order to make sure that it was possible. You guys did everything, and more, to make this experience one that I will cherish for the rest of my life.

I know I put you two through many stressful situations and drove you guys insane, so I thank you for putting up with me. Thank you for putting up with all of my reckless and careless decisions I have made over the years. Thank you for accepting the fact that I got my car towed the first day of classes my freshman year. Thank you for paying for hundreds of parking tickets. Thank you for supporting my constant broken phone struggles. But despite all of this, thank you for calling me everyday. Thank you for always being there to comfort me after a bad day. And most importantly thank you for the endless love and support.

With Graduation approaching, I can’t help but look back on these past four years and think about the two people who made it all possible. I wouldn’t be the person I am today if it wasn’t for the two of you and everything I have learned over the past four years. I know I don’t say it enough, but I am so thankful for everything you do and for giving me the opportunity to experience college at Florida State. I only hope that I can give my future kids half of what you gave me. I love you guys.

Sincerely,

A Grateful Kid

P.S. If you got teary-eyed reading this, just remember I’ll be living with you again in like two weeks so the party’s over.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

Creating your schedule for the upcoming semester can be an exciting process. You have the control to decide if you want to have class two-days a week or five-days a week. You get to check things off of your requirement checklist. It's an opportunity for a fresh start with new classes (which you tell yourself you'll never skip.) This process, which always starts out so optimistic, can get frustrating really quickly. Here are 25 thoughts you have when registering for classes.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
