Thank You Mom

Have you ever taken the time to really thank your mom?

Thank You Mom
Carley Hebert

Dear Mom,

Thank you. Thank you for choosing me to be your daughter. I am so thankful to have you as a mom. You are so loved and appreciated, probably more than you realize. I want to take this time to thank you for being the best mom I could ever ask for.

Thank you for raising me. From being an infant who could go from giggling to crying in .2 seconds to being a toddler who you had to chase around the house. At least I was a fun kid! I know I probably was not the easiest child to take care of but I am glad it was you doing the work. You have raised me to be a mature young adult with manners and class. You taught me my 'P's' and 'Q's' and my 'yes sir' and 'yes 'ma'am.' You prepared me to go into this world with my head held high and a smile on my face (even though I may frown some times). Even though I am an adult now, I'll still always be your little girl.

Thank you for all the home cooked meals. I always looked forward to coming home from school and helping you make dinner in the kitchen (even if helping only meant finishing my homework at the kitchen table). Homemade spaghetti was always my favorite. It took you hours to make the sauce from scratch (which ended up being half way gone from me tasting it). I could always count on some new concoction every week with pasta or chicken or a casserole. You were never a mom who relied on frozen dinners or picking up something on the way home. There was always fresh fruit and vegetables in the house for me to eat and snack on when I got hungry or home from practice. My stomach really appreciated it!

Thank you for being a stay-at-home mom. You gave up going to your job every day to watch your child grow and learn new things. You drove me to band practice early in the mornings and took me to softball practice late at night (you also coached my softball team too!). You were able to go on lunch dates with me and spend hours at the shopping mall during the week when it was not crowded. All of those things would not have been possible if you were not a stay-at-home mom.

Thank you for being my number one fan. You cheered me on throughout all the sports I played, through every concert I was in, through all of the fights with friends and boy problems I had in life. You have never given up on me or anything I have tried to accomplish (and I know you never plan to).

I love you mom. Thank you for everything you have done and everything you will continue to do for me. I am glad I am able to be your child.

Love always,

Your little girl

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.
