Thank You To the Best Woman in My Life, My Grandma
Grandma and I

Grandma,

Where do I even begin? There are so many things I could thank you for. I'm sure I haven't told you as many times as I should how thankful I am for you, but alas, here I am, writing an article hoping to do just that.

First of all, thank you for wanting to be a part of my life. Thank you for wanting to know every little detail about my life, from what time my classes are to what I ate for lunch, you have always cared. Thank you for never failing to sit front-row at a dance performance, school play, or a boring honors ceremony. I know of so many others who go months and years without speaking to their grandparents. They only communicate on holidays or special events. I simply could not imagine going through life without you. Thank you for playing such an active role in my life and for always being interested in the mundane events of my daily activities. Your presence is the biggest present I have ever been given.

Thank you for being the mother I never had. Every time mom and I got into a fight, you were always willing to listen and help me pick up the pieces and figure out where to go from there. Thank you for caring for me like a mother should. For all the times you have bent over backwards trying to lend me your car to take to work, cooking me my favorite food when I come home from school, and letting me watch Gilmore Girls for hours on end after my surgery, even though you hate it. Thank you for stepping up to the plate whenever it was necessary. You were never asked to do all the things you have done, but you were always willing. Thank you.

Thank you for always being my go-to person when my world is falling apart. Every time something happens, whether it’s a fight with a friend, a bad grade on a paper, or just a case of the Monday’s, you’ve always answered my calls and made me feel better. Thank you for always listening to me, and hearing me out when I just need someone to talk to.

Thank you for always being so strong. I know life has caused you to have your heart broken on more than one occasion. Despite that, you have been the lifeline for not only myself, but for our entire family in times of trouble. You were strong when your own world was falling apart. You’re my inspiration. Your strength has inspired and helped me to overcome all obstacles in life. I hope to one day acquire the strength that you have.

Thank you for making me feel special. For always reminding me that I can accomplish my dreams and that I’m capable of doing anything. Thank you for believing in me and supporting me in the things that make me happy even if you don’t always agree. Thank you for loving me even when I’m a pain. I know sometimes we often don’t see eye to eye, but that’s because you’re basically my mother. No matter how aggravated you may be with me at times, I know you will always love me.

Grandma, there are so many more things I could thank you for. You truly are the best person in my life. You have played such an important role in my life. I could not imagine what my life would be like if I didn’t have you. You have shaped me into the person I am today and inspire me to be the person I want to be: you. Thank you for being my role model. Thank you for being my guidance. Thank you for loving me. Thank you for being you. I love you.

College is filled with many things, and we're so often lectured to make the right decisions as we head out on our own into the college life. But sometimes it's necessary to indulge in some guilty pleasures as well as just doing things because you can. And honestly, a lot of the time it's inevitable. College is no piece of cake that's for sure, so it's okay to do some things you deep down know you shouldn't....once in a while anyways.
