A Thank You Letter To My Role Model

A thank you letter to my role model.

A role model is someone you look up to and admire. They are someone you have the most respect for. For me, my role model isn’t a celebrity. It is my godmother.

My godmother is my role model for so many reasons. All the reasons why are too long to list. You do so much for me, and I wanted to say, thank you for that.

First, thank you for the compliments. It is something simple. You have always showered me with compliments ever since I was little and coming from you, it means a lot. With compliments comes confidence. So I owe a lot of my confidence to you.

Second, thank you for treating me like family. We aren’t blood-related. So you do not have to treat me like it. But you do. And that means the world. I never feel uncomfortable around you.

Third, thank you for the advice. I value your opinion a lot. I always have and I always will. You always know what to say. I know I can give you a call whenever I need it and I will not be judged or talked down to. You talk to me as an equal and at my age, I don’t get that as often as I should.

Fourth, thank you for my graduation present. My role model got me my first laptop. As a writer, I use my laptop every single day. I couldn’t image not having it. You got this for me and by doing that, I got the opportunity to write more and write quicker. It was the best present I could ever ask for.

Fifth, thank you for your trust. You trust me with your beautiful daughter who I love from the bottom of my heart. You trust me to pick her up from school and take her wherever the two of us want to go. You trust me to watch your dog and house sit. You trust me to do what you need. Having your trust is very important to me.

And finally, thank you for being you. Thank you for being generous and kind. Thank you for your wisdom that you have shared with me. Thank you for your patience. Thank you for your respect. Thank you for the funny moments. Thank you for the love you show me day after day.

I hope one day when I have children of my own, they have a godmother and role model who is as beautiful inside and out as you.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
