A Thank You Letter To My Forever Friend
Christa Santulli

Finding someone who will stick by your side through thick and thin is very challenging, and many don’t get lucky enough to find that person in their lifetime. If you are lucky enough to find that one person, your friendship soulmate, you understand the intense bond that many cannot comprehend. Being friends with someone from such a young age and watching each other grow into taller, more mature (maybe physically, not always mentally) adults, is a beautiful thing. This is why I want to dedicate this to you, my best friend since childhood, my forever friend, my soulmate. There are some things I want you to know and always remember, no matter where you are, near or far.

Thank you for sticking with me through every one of my horrible and embarrassing phases, and for going through them right alongside me.

We were so embarrassing, but the good thing is, we went through it together. I’ve always known that no matter what I wear, how much makeup I slap on my face, or who I’m hanging out with, you will always support me and love me for who I am. Thank you for not only always having my back, but for being my sidekick through all of the disastrous phases (especially middle school).

Thank you for being the person I always know I can rant to about anything or anyone.

Over the years we have both had our share of drama and other issues in our lives. I know that no matter what I have going on, or who I’m fighting with, you will always be there to listen, rant along with me, and devise a plan to ruin their lives (just kidding, kinda).

Thank you for welcoming me into your family like I’m your actual sibling.

Honestly, if we looked more alike people would probably assume we were family members. Your family has become my family, and likewise. When I gained you as a friend so many years ago, I also gained a whole new group of people who I know would do anything for me.

Thank you for always being my rock when everything feels like it’s falling apart.

When nothing else is right, when everyone else has turned their backs on me, you have always been a constant in my life. Thank you for being my best friend through it all, thick and thin. I don’t know how I would’ve survived half the things I have in my life so far if I didn’t have you. I’m so incredibly lucky to have become your partner in crime when we were children.

And lastly, thank you for staying my friend for all these years. Thank you for not letting anything ruin the amazingly strong bond we have between us.

Time moves, friends drift apart, but thank you for remaining my best friend through the years. Although we have gone through many changes lately, and distance has come between us physically, I know that you will be there to pick up my call at 2 p.m. or 2 a.m., no matter what. Thank you for being my best friend in the whole world, my sister, my ride or die. I know that one day you will be standing next to me as my maid of honor, and we will probably be as insane and dysfunctional as the women in "Bridesmaids." I can’t wait to see what the world and future have in store for us. Thank you for being my forever friend.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
