A Thank You Letter to My Amazing Roommate

Every school is different when it comes to selecting roommates. For some, it’s completely random, and for others, students have full autonomy. It is always a goal to hope that the friendship one develops with their roommate(s) throughout the school year is positive. Living away from home for the first time is one thing, but living in a dorm with someone completely new is another. It may not always work out, but for me it did. Having only been a freshman for five months, it is crazy to think how close me and my roommate have become. We appreciate our differences, celebrate our diverse accomplishments, and always, always have fun together no matter what we are doing. If your roommate situation is anything like mine, then I’m sure you feel the same. But often while we are distracted from classes, homework, and extracurriculars, we often forget to take the time to really thank those friendships for which we are immensely grateful. Inspired to do so, I decided to write a thank you letter to my amazing roommate.

Dear roomie,

I’m writing to you not only to thank you for being the best roommate but for being my best friend. Even though we’ve only been roommates for a little over a semester, it seems like we have been friends forever. You know pretty much everything about me and I know that I can always count on you. So I want to say, thank you. Thank you for all the late night convos, the continuous adventures, the plethora of inside jokes, and the many, many laughs. Thank you for always being honest with me and for giving me the best advice about literally anything (even if I don’t want to hear it but I know it's true). Thank you for encouraging me to push myself in school and in dance. Thank you for doing late night ice cream runs for me. Thank you for not judging me when I obnoxiously sing to the radio in my car. Thank you for listening to my dilemmas. Thank you for making me laugh 24/7. Thank you for always having my back when others may not. Thank you for being there for me whenever I need you. But most of all, thank you for being you. The fact that we are always real with one another makes us so close. I couldn't have asked for a better roommate and friend. I hope you know just how much I am thankful to have you in my life. I am so grateful to call you my roomie and best friend.

Sincerely,

Me

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
