A Thank You Letter To The Moms And Dads Of Us College Kids

Dear Mom’s and Dad’s,

Over these past few years, we’ve done nothing short of drive you guys CRAZY. We know this. And we’re sorry. But, just know that your hard work and dedication to us has never gone unnoticed or unappreciated. Without you guys, we wouldn’t be where we are today, so thank you.

Thank you for supporting us in choosing where to go to school.

We know we have the tendency to be incredibly indecisive, and looking back, we can only imagine how annoying we were about choosing colleges. With that being said, we appreciate all of your support for us along the way. Just know that we wanted to be sure we went somewhere that we could be happy. There’s a reason for our madness (sometimes), we promise.

Thank you for coming down every summer to help us move in.

Without you guys, we don’t know if we’d have anything cleaned or organized. I know that my physical strength had not been enough to get my stuff into my dorm, nor to the second floor of my apartment. And, quite honestly, I don’t think I would have even MADE my bed, let alone unpacked my clothes or cleaned my room without you forcing me to.

Thank you for letting us call you crying after a bad exam.

We’ve all been there. We walk into an exam, whether we’re confident or not, and leave as if nothing could’ve gone worse. When we think a bad exam is the end of the world, you guys help us realize that everything will be okay. Without you, we might not stay sane.

Thank you for taking us grocery shopping when you come to visit.

We’re college students. And therefore we’re poor. We’ll take any opportunity for free food that we can get. So just know that every time you come to visit and take us to get food, it’s basically the equivalent to Christmas.

Thank you for the care packages during midterms and finals.

They’re the perfect pick-me-ups that all of us need to stay motivated.

Thank you for bearing with us when we have no idea what we want in life.

From changing majors, to completely changing our career paths, you guys have heard it all. It’s so much to figure out for us, and we’re bound to question ourselves. But your patience and understanding is what we need. This is the most challenging time of our lives, and we couldn’t do it without you to guide us.

Thank you for being only a phone call away.

Sometimes we need last minute advice, and you get that. It's always good to know that you'll be there at any given time to talk to us.

And, last but not least, thank you for your constant love and support.

In a crazy college environment, sometimes it's hard to feel this from friends. That's not to say our friends aren't there for us, but with our crazy schedules, sometimes we don't get to see or talk to them as much as we need or want. It's always comforting to know that we have you guys. Because when we're down, you always pick us right back up.

Thank you guys.

Love,
Your kids

5 Things To Do That Are Better Than Writing A Paper

Don't waste your time trying to write that paper when there are so many more interesting things you could be doing.

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?

I can barely remember back when I was the only child. Most would say it’s because it is extremely difficult to remember things as a toddler but I would say it's because I was bored until my sister came along. My mother always says how important the "sister bond" is and with every year that passes I realize how right she is. Instead of writing a novel about all of the wonderful things there are about having a sister I decided to list a few of them instead.

It is the time of our lives that we are beginning to enter the adult world and most of us, if not all of us, have no idea what we are doing. It's like starting a video game, but skipping the tutorial. We're all just running around aimlessly hoping we accidentally do something right that moves us along the right path. Now that graduation has just happened, or is right around the corner for some of us, it's time to start thinking about how we are going to take care of ourselves once we are on our own.

If you’re anything like me, you love a good cup of coffee. My coffee always comes from Starbucks; I refuse to drink it from anywhere else. Over the years, it’s become one of my biggest addictions. College involves a whirlwind of emotions, whether it’s from the stress of an assignment (or twenty), or from fighting with your roommate. It can be overwhelming at times and it’s important to take a step a back and calmly think things over. Maybe gain some perspective.
