A Thank You To My Brothers

Siblings are a curse... but also a blessing.

A Thank You To My Brothers
Brianna Ramos

My brothers are my best friends. They are silly, intelligent, competitive, rambunctious. My brothers are my heroes. They are always there for me when I need them, they know the right things to say at the worst times. I hate when people ask which brother is my favorite because I honestly can't pick. They all have unique traits, they all think a certain way and do things a certain way and that's why I love each one of them. People sometimes don't get along with their siblings for one reason or another but I couldn't imagine not being able to talk talking to them. They keep me going. They are my stars when there's none. They are the sunshine that wakes me up in the morning. I wouldn't be the person I am without them.

To My Oldest Brother:

You have always been the wisest one. You have always known what to say and when to say it. Thank you for being the oldest out of the four of us. Thank you for letting me "cut your hair" when I was younger. Thank you for the countless Mets games we have gone to, and for acting like a fool when we were on the jumbo screen with Cuppy. Thank you for the many times you bought me pizza or Five Guys. Thank you for being there for me when I complain about the people in school. Thank you for introducing me to Vampire Weekend and Pepper, they ended up being two of my favorite bands. Thank you for making me die laughing at every single Mets game when you sing the national anthem and to Piano Man. Thank you for constantly trying to scare me and give me a heart attack EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

To My Middle Brother:

You have always been the quiet but hysterical one. You are quiet at first but once you start talking you make everyone laugh. Thank you for being a taxi service for like the past 5 years.Thank you for making up that silly song where we dance around and we would do this super dramatic dip at the end. Thank you for letting me eat the rest of your Doritos every time I saw them on the counter. Thank you for being there for me when Vic or Andre decided to bother me. Thank you for always buying me sandwiches from Subway. We like to bother each other, a lot. Mom yells at us the most because we are always yelling at each other. I still don't forgive you for throwing my sneakers outside. Still love you, though. I never understood our relationship, to be honest. One day we hate each other, the next we are dying laughing.

To My Youngest Brother:

You have always been the most outgoing. You have always been good at talking to people. You're also the most serious, you're like Dad. You are serious but you know how to lighten up. Thank you for being a confident. You are definitely the closest to me since we're close in age. You have always given me the most meaningful advice. Thank you for letting me hang out with you and your friends even though I know you hate it. Thank you for taking me to Applebee's for the half priced apps. Thank you for buying me Chipotle after school every week. Thank you for allowing me to wear your clothes. I'm sorry for stealing your Barcelona sweatshirt, but it's very comfortable. I'm also sorry for sneaking into your room to steal your Tommy Bahama cologne but.. t smells amazing.

We're definitely the best when we are together. We all are the wolf pack, the goon squad, and the crazy siblings that all my friends love. I know one day we'll all have separate paths but I know the bond we have will never be broken. There is something about us that makes us different than other siblings. Maybe it's the fact that we are all the same but different. Maybe it's because we finish each other's sentences. Whatever it is, everyone sees the love we have for each other. Everyone feels the love we have for each other. I love my three brothers and I always will. I hope that no matter how far we go or how crazy life gets, we still have each other to lean on.

The Battle Between College And My Mental Health

College isn't easy, and I'm afraid I'm not going to make it at the rate my mental health is going.

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?
