A Thank You Letter To Bernie Sanders

Dear Bernie Sanders,

From the beginning of your presidential campaign to your endorsement of Hillary Clinton for president, I have supported you and admired your determination to do what's right. I have worn your "Students for Bernie" t-shirts, I have adhered your "Feel the Bern" stickers to my laptop and water bottle and, most importantly, I have believed in you. So, this is a letter to say thank you.

Thank you for your unwavering commitment to your beliefs.

Even when it seemed like you were the only one advocating for gay rights, a higher minimum wage, easy access to abortion, stricter gun laws, and many other ideas ahead of your time, you still fought for what you believed was right. You have shown us all that we should stand up for what we believe in, even if we're standing alone.

Thank you for starting the conversation on so many important issues.

Some may say that free college tuition for public and community colleges is a crazy idea, but every idea is crazy until it actually happens. By bringing free tuition and so many other groundbreaking ideas to the public's attention, you were able to make a difference. There may not be debt-free students in the next five years, or even the next ten, but you have sparked the fire that will one day ignite a monumental flame.

Thank you for valuing and inspiring the young voters.

The youth vote, which is composed of 18-24 year olds, usually doesn't play a large role in an election. But, by talking about issues that will affect us in the near future, when we are running the country, you stimulated an interest in politics among young voters. You showed the young people that their opinions do matter, and we have the power to change the world for the better.

Thank you for being you.

If it weren't for a humble senator from Vermont running for President of the United States, none of this could have happened. You fought until the end, and for that, I admire you.

Come this November when it's time for me to cast my vote for the leader of the free world, even though your name won't be on that ballot, I will do what I can to elect the next-best choice, whomever that may be. And even though you won't be in the Oval Office, I'm sure that we have not seen the last of you.

Sincerely,

An Inspired Millennial

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
