A thank you letter to Jagathon
Jordan Stotts

Jagathon is IUPUI's dance marathon that benefits Riley Children's Hospital. Jagathon is a 13.1 hour event where a bunch of college students raise money and stand the whole time for the kids that can't. There are a lot of events that take place through out this event like games, competitions, Riley kid talent show, Riley stories, and run to Riley. Jagathon is the only dance marathon in the nation that is able to run to the hospital that they raise money for. This year Jagathon was able to raise 351,430.22 dollars all to benefit pediatric research and Riley children's hospital. One day we will be able to dance in celebration of cures but until then we will continue to dance for miracles.

Thank you to Jagathon for allowing me to meet some amazing people. Amazing people on the same committee as me and people on other committees. We all have a common goal and that is to raise as much money as we possibly can for the kids. Everyone has that same passion as you so no one looks at you like you are crazy when you go on talking about it for hours.

Thank you for allowing me to meet so many Riley families and be able to hear their stories and get to know them through out the year. These are the people that we do this for and they are so appreciative and so caring. They are so willing to tell their stories to other people to raise awareness and are there to prove that every thing we are doing is worth it. Meeting them and talking to them makes standing for the 13.1 hours not that bad.

Thank you for helping me find something I enjoy doing so much and am so passionate about. Jagathon is such an easy cause to get behind because everything we do is for the kids. These kids did nothing wrong to deserve to be as sick as some of them are so it makes it easy to raise money to benefit these kids.

Thank you for brining IUPUI's campus together as one movement. Jagathon brings us all together for one end goal.

Thank you for raising money for Riley Children's Hospital. This hospital has touched the lives of so many people not just in Indiana but across the country. It really is such a wonderful hospital.

We don't buy into these... just like how we don't buy our friends.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
