A Thank You Letter To My Happy Place

A Thank You Letter To My Happy Place

We all have that certain spot that removes us from reality and brings us to our “happy place”. For me, it is my lake house that allows me to escape the real world and be within my own peaceful environment. Many of my earliest memories took place here surrounded by my family. For the familiarity you hold, the memories you allow to occur, as well as offering a place for all my family to gather, I thank you.

Dear Happy Place,

Thank you just doesn't seem to suffice for the amount of gratitude I feel toward you. Your serenity allows my mind to be still and rather concentrate on the beautiful nature you have to offer. My troubling thoughts soon get lost in the waves of the lake and I am overcome by an overwhelming amount of tranquility.

Thank you for waking me up to the soft sounds of the waves crashing into shore. For the sunlight you provide that I can bask in the warmth of after a cool swim in your waters. I can feel the individual rays of sun kiss my skin to give me my summer glow. As well as creating the gentle flow of the current that slightly rock us as we spend our days on the boat.

Thank you for accepting my fresh face, impurities and all. As well as letting me feel secure being in this state and providing a place for my family who loves me for not being perfect. I also appreciate the way you let the nights cool off just enough for all of us to sit comfortably around the fire. For giving us all the opportunity to embrace each other’s presence and create discussions throughout the night.

Thank you for bringing together strangers who turn into life long friends. As well as creating an environment where it doesn’t matter where you came from because, everyone is treated equal here. For allowing us to use your waters to all gather as a raft in the middle of the lake. Also for giving the opportunity to experiencing flying only for a moment, as we descend off the cliffs.

Thank you for the late night card games where I get to have my family, from all different areas, around me all at one time. I am thankful for the way you carry our laughter throughout the camp and allow for our grandparents to see how much we have grown together. I also admire the way you amplify the instruments that are played and the voices that sing so we can feel the passion deep within.

The only thing I won’t find myself thanking you for is allowing these times to come to an end. Until I see you again, thank you for being my happy place as well as my favorite place.

From,

A Fellow Laker

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
