Kenzie,
Wow. What a crazy ride it has been.
Looking back just to move in day is shocking. I was driving a huge F350 Dually, had a turning radius of a boat, and I had to find a parking spot among 5,000 other students.
I felt abandoned. My parents had to work, I had a truck full of stuff, and I was a 120 pound little girl moving myself in. That moment is when the stress had all came onto me at once. I was literally sweating.
I went to the front desk and I checked in, then I was informed I was on the tenth floor of White Hall. Even better. Now, there I was panicking even more, so many people and had to find my way to the elevator to get a spot. Finally, I had gotten on and it seemed like an hour until I got to the tenth floor.
Thankfully, I wasn't going into meeting my roommate blind. Kenz and I actually were rodeo queens in different counties beforehand, so we contacted each other when we saw a Facebook post about us both going to Laramie.
We got all moved in, and were both so excited to experience this college life. It was nice having Kenzie because we both were so social and practically made people talk to us and invited everyone in for popcorn, snacks, and our favorite, juice boxes.
Throughout freshman year, Kenzie and I did everything together. Shopping, football games, basketball games, unexpected road trips, swing dancing at the Cowboy, sudden urgent care emergencies, and also late night drives.
Though we fought here and there, we always made up because we didn't want the awkward tension between us.
Halfway through the semester, I convinced Kenzie to change her major to Agricultural Communications like me. It was nice, we had the same classes, homework, and could really help each other understand concepts that one of us didn't understand as well.
Kenzie and I are still very similar, although we taught each other so much. Although we would get pissy and intolerable with one another at times. We both taught each other alot.
Patience, kindness, forgiveness and happiness were just a few.
I'm not going to go into how those were taught because to anyone else those may be irrelevant. But to us, those lessons have carried on to my newest roommates, and it's made living with another person other than my own family so easy.
I understand that everyone is different and that I cannot please everyone. Kenzie was there for me through my worst year of college, and to this day we are still amazing friends. I thank God that I reached out to Kenzie about being my roommate at UW, and I wouldn't want it any other way.
So thank you Kenzie, because without you, I wouldn't be the strong, stubborn, smartass that I am today.
Love,
Anna
