A thank you letter to my daily cup of joe,
If you’re a coffee addict (like myself), your morning cup of coffee is more than just a beverage to accompany your breakfast…it’s an experience. Your relationship with your daily coffee might be more of a love affair than a simple morning routine. So, let’s take a moment to thank the drink that has saved us countless times and that continues to enhance our lives.
Thank you for being there for me whenever I need you.
On the days that I feel I can’t make it out of bed, or to the classroom, or to work, your taste awakens my senses. Thank you for making my eyes a little brighter, my mind a little more present, and for making my smile a little wider. Thank you for being by my side when I don’t have time for my afternoon nap or when I have to pull an all-nighter in order to salvage my GPA. If it weren’t for you, I can’t imagine the number of classes I would’ve skipped, tests I would’ve fallen asleep during, or adventures I would’ve missed out on.
Thank you for being wherever I need you.
I’m eternally grateful for the 10 p.m. caffeine stops before a late night road trip with my best friends in order to fuel up for our terrible car sing-a-longs. I’m also thankful for every little coffee shop I’ve visited during my travels. Each is unique to its home and each place expresses a little bit of its respective culture through that warm mug of happiness. Whether it's the drive-through line when I’m on the road and short of time or my favorite coffee shop on the corner where I spend countless hours catching up with friends, thank you for following me around the world in support of my addiction.
Thank you for being able to adjust to my wants/needs.
Thank you for being a vanilla soy latte on winter walks through the park when I need warm hands and a warm heart or for being the perfect cold-brew to save me on a hot summer day when I feel like I’m melting away in a pool of sweat. Or for when I’m desperate for a pick-me-up, thank you for being a simple double shot of espresso. Thank you for being refreshing and sweet at times when I need comfort and for being strong and bitter when I need a jolt of energy. You’re always able to fit my mood and rescue the day no matter the weather.
Thank you for understanding when I need a little more of you than usual.
On the days where I stayed up until the wee hours of the night because of a grueling workload (or the ridiculous decision to pull an all-nighter for fun), thank you for supporting me all through the night and still being there for me the morning after to wake me up once again. Thank you for being there for me at my favorite coffee shop on a Saturday afternoon when I need to relax with a good book because I need to escape reality for a while. Or for being there for me when I’m cuddled up on a lazy rainy day and don’t want to leave the house, but am in need of a little warmth. Also, thank you for not judging me (when everyone else does) when I'm on my fifth cup of the day, because sometimes that's necessary.
Thank you for your patience.
For all of the times I've made you sit tight while I take a photo of the masterpiece you are, thank you for being patient. You've helped me create a portfolio of all the jaw-dropping latte art creations and mason jar iced coffees that I've deemed worthy of photos. You've helped add to the aesthetic of my Instagram feed and you've allowed me to capture some of the most creative cups of coffee I've every consumed. Thank you for not getting angry when I forget you on the counter or for when I decide to save you in the fridge for later. And thank you for (sometimes) staying warm while I have a 10-minute photoshoot of you before even taking a sip.
Thank you for becoming a part of my lifestyle.
Over the years you’ve become a routine I can’t live without. Whether it’s grabbing a cup to-go before I start my day or sitting down to enjoy you while reading my morning paper and munching on a piece of peanut butter toast, you’ve become an integral part of my life. Thank you for all of the times you’ve helped stir my creativity, enhanced my attentiveness, or simply assisted my engagement in a situation. I guess I could say I owe my productivity to you.
Through the highs and the lows, thank you for being a constant in my life. Thank you for saving hopeless, exhausting mornings and sleepless nights alike. Most importantly, thank you for being the coolest bean around.
Sincerely,
A coffee addict
P.S. I forgive you for staining my favorite white top that Monday I was running late.
P.P.S. I love you.
