A Thank You Letter To Camp

This past summer was my first time not going back to camp and it felt so weird being home, not seeing the same faces every day, and being next to my best friends 24/7. I went to Tranquillity Camp for nine summers and I really don't know how my life would be right now if I didn't go. I look back on my past summers and think about how amazing they were and how I wish I could keep going back forever because some of my best memories are made there. Tranquillity isn't like most sleep away camps which makes it even more special and I wouldn't be who I am today if I never went.

Dear Camp,

Thank you for giving me something to look forward to every summer and for giving me a second home. Waiting 10 months for 2 was defiantly a struggle but each month I would just get more and more excited about camp.

Thank you for giving me the most amazing friends. I don't think I would be able to get through life if I didn't have my camp friends and our group chats that never stop going off. I know these friends will always be here because camp friends last forever.

Thank you for having yummy food. You don't usually hear people say that their camp food is good but not at Tranquillity. The food is so good you never want to stop eating it.

Thank you for allowing me to have some of the best counselors at camp. Shoutout to those counselors who made my summers even better and for always being there when our group would have some kind of drama.

Thank you for teaching me all those lessons on how to be a better person and to sometimes to put others first.

Lastly, Thank you for giving me my home away from home.

Sincerely,

Sarah Rich

Tranquillity Camp was my home for many summers and I will never forget the memories or the people I met there.

Friendship. It's defined as the state of being attached to another person by feelings of affection or personal regard, but what really is friendship? Is it that occasional hallway talk with that one person who always manages to cheer you up? Is it that relationship you have with someone where they can be gone for a long period of time, but when they come back, it's like they never left? Is it spending every waking hour with someone, and knowing every detail about their life? Is it the relationship that's filled with fighting, but filled with even more resolution? I've learned that it's all of these things, and every friendship is different. It's a beautifully dysfunctional mess that should always be cherished and never be taken for granted.
