A Thank You Letter to My Boyfriend

I can't express how thankful I am for you.

College is a stressful time. Between juggling a full time class schedule, work, extra curricular groups and whatever else you may have on your plate, it can become overwhelming. Thankfully, I've had you through it all.

Thank you for encouraging me.

There's been so many days this past semester where I've just felt like giving up and going home. Thank you for encouraging me to do whatever makes me happy. You've helped me strive to be a better student, stay involved in my extra-curriculars, and continue to better myself in any way, shape, or form. Thank you for reassuring me that anything is possible. Thank you for making me see how much potential I have.

Thank you for comforting me.

I know it might be hard to see your significant other so discouraged. But you've been here for me every step of the way. Thank you for holding me when I cry, even if it's over the dumbest possible problem to ever exist. Thank you for learning how to deal with my anxiety. I have never met someone in my entire life that has learned so much about me in so little time. These tough times make me realize how much you care about me- and how much I truly am thankful for you.

Thank you for making me laugh.

The amount of time in a day we speak sarcastically to each other might be a little ridiculous, but I would never change it. You know how to make me laugh, but you also know when to stop. I can't thank you enough for that. I don't know what I would do if I wasn't able to hear your terrible rapping skills and weird sense of humor every day.

Thank you for going on adventures with me.

Yeah, we might be college students in the middle of central Illinois, but we always find some way to have fun. I will always cherish all of the "firsts" we've accomplished this past year. My first cubs game, our first vacation together, our first little trip to Starved Rock, our first Country Thunder experience, everything. These are memories that we will have for the rest of our lives no matter what. And I can't thank you enough for sharing them with me.

Thank you for trusting me.

I've watched so many relationships around me deteriorate because of trust issues. Especially in a college community, it can be tough to fully trust your significant other. Between going to frat parties, bars, or just nights with friends, college is a crazy time. I really do appreciate the trust you have in me. Thank you for knowing and believing that I would never in a million years do anything to hurt you.

Finally, thank you for helping me learn to trust again.

Yes, I can admit, I've had more problems with trust issues than you have. But thank you for being understanding and for reassuring me there is no reason to be nervous- ever. I know I can be a lot to handle at time, but thank you for realizing it's worth it.

I've learned a lot about myself this past year because of our relationship. I've learned that I can be independent and dependent at the same time. I've learned that I can go out with my friends, but always come back to you. I've learned that I can study my brains out all day by myself and look forward to watching Netflix with you afterwards at night. I've learned balance. And most importantly, I've learned that even through very tough times (yes there's been a couple) that I love you no matter what. So thank you for everything. This past year has meant more to me than you will ever know and I cannot wait to see what the future has in store for us.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
