Dear avocado toast,
Hello. I love you.
All summer you have been there for me. You have reported to duty as a satisfying side to my scrambled eggs at breakfast, but you have also been the star of the show. You don’t mind when I skip you one day for some classic strawberry jam on my rye toast, and even still the next day you patiently wait for me on the counter, urging me to choose you as my breakfast toast topping.
I can dress you with any toppings I am particularly in the mood for, from seasonings like garlic powder and red chili flakes, to plain old salt and pepper, and even some days strawberries. You are versatile and I appreciate you for that. You have made me branch out and try different flavorings. Although I’ll never go back to turmeric because I know you two did not agree.
You have sparked conversations with a variety of people I encounter. The cashier at the grocery store sometimes comments on how many avocados I buy at the beginning of the week, but I just explain how they’re for avocado toast and then she normally would smile. Some people don’t understand the marvels of you, avocado toast, but I do.
You are the perfect way to annoy my friends and family over Snapchat. Every morning or afternoon I make you, I make sure to take a picture and send it to all of my besties, so they know what I’m eating. I can’t help it; you just look so perfect behind the lens, the perfect model.
I’m going to miss your savory taste when I move back in to my dorm room, unequipped with a kitchen or a toaster. I may have to make extensive arrangements just so I can have you, avocado toast, for breakfast at least once a week. I hope my friends in the apartments will keep an avocado on hand, just for me.
So thanks for your loyalty all summer long and for being so tasty.
Sincerely,
Your No. 1 fan
