"What is your inspiration?"
If you're an artist or a writer you have been asked this question before. As a journalist who has interviewed artists I know it's possible I have overused this question but it is very valid. There is this curiosity within people, this fascination with asking why. Everyone wants to know why. Children at a young age even begin to ask why very constantly. My two year old nephew and many of the kids I worked with have had this phase. It often becomes tedious to answer why, but it's important to think about for yourself.Sometimes when you're in the midst of creating, you forget why you are creating. There are times when you just get an idea and run with it, but you don't really know where the idea came from. You really should think about this question and wonder why. I am going to tell you about a few of my inspirations but I challenge you as readers to think about this question as well. Ask yourself why.
My inspiration to become a journalist stems back to my freshman year and high school. My teacher and great aunt, Mrs. Gibson, helped me develop a love for writing. She is the real reason I aspire to be a journalist today. After her our adviser for the yearbook, Mrs. Collins pushed me further. If it weren't for the two of them I wouldn't be perusing this career today.
A celebrity who inspires me is Jhene Aiko. All the people who are close to me have heard me talk about her before because I adore her and her music so much. There is just this vibe I get when I hear one of her songs, I feel very at peace. She's such a strong, powerful woman, a mother, and so sweet and kind I am inspired by her beauty and her grace. I wish to handle myself like that everyday and follow my heart.
My entire family inspires me everyday. My parents are so strong and they take care of me and my sister. They've raised me to be the lady I am today. My grandparents who helped take care of me when I was young. I spent so much time with them growing up and I love them with all my heart. My nephew is a real driving force for me as well. I want his auntie to be someone he can look up to. I want him to know that he can be anything he wants to be and he should never let anything stop him. I just hope he knows that when he gets older. The same goes for my younger sister, we've had more than out fair share of fights but I still love her and I want her to know I believe in her. There are so many other people in my family I could mention and all the love and support they give me constantly doesn't go unnoticed. I love them all, they push me to continue to be better.
My friends, especially Sarah, inspire me. She is very strong, smart and funny. She is always there to help when I need her. She reads my articles and will spend countless hours studying with me and just messing around. I am thankful to have her in my life. she makes me want to be a better journalist and a better person. Thank you Sarah.
I could go on forever about all the things I draw inspiration from. Name each one of my friends and family members. Talk about all the flowers I love, the things I see when I just sit outside. Childhood memories. There are so many things I let into my mind bring forth this creative spirit I have within me. I hope you guys will think about what inspires you and why it inspires you that way.
