Thank You To My Favorite Fraternity

Thank You To My Favorite Fraternity

We all have a favorite song, favorite Netflix series and favorite pizza topping. The feeling of having that number one thing to go to is comforting and can often times apply to people in your life. I could not have any more love and respect for the Greek organization my boyfriend is involved in. He has gone from an overconfident freshman (sorry) to an assertive, responsible and caring young man. While I may have played a minor role in his transformation, I have to give a huge thanks to the guys who I have grown to love as my own family.

1. Thank you guys for being so accepting of everyone.

Whether it is with your new members or someone you don’t know, you guys have always been the first to say hello. I admire your ability to be outgoing and show nothing but respect to complete strangers. Thank you for teaching me how to put myself out there with people I don’t know because it has led me to the best friendships.

2. Thanks for always focusing on the good.

You never have anything to say about my ugly days, but if I try a new pair of shoes or a mediocre hairstyle you guys are the first to tell me they're awesome. I have never felt confident in my own skin, and you guys have made me feel at home in it. If something is going wrong, you guys always have the ability to make light of things. Laughing with you never gets old.

3. Thanks for handing me the aux.

Everyone thinks they have mad decent aux skills, but you guys understand that I am a master of setting the musical mood. I have spent enough time with you guys to know who needs 90s rap, summer hits of the 2000s, Cole Swindell or even Marshmello. I get it and I am thankful you trust me with that responsibility. Thank you for always being willing to tear down the dance floor with the help of my crafted Spotify playlist.

4. Thanks for showing me how to dream big.

I try my hardest to do it on my own, but you guys have pushed me to be the best version of myself with your guidance and mentorship. You have bestowed your wisdom upon me about navigating through this crazy life during and after college. Thanks for all the road trips and spur of the moment memories.

5. Thanks for always being there.

I mean this both literally and figuratively. Thank you for already being on my couch when I burst through the door having a full-fledged breakdown. Thanks for laughing at how ugly I look when I cry to cheer me up. Thank you all for always being a text away when I need something heavy moved, someone to watch "How I Met You Mother" or even just get discounted Dairy Queen with. *shoutout to the Edwardsville area Dairy Queens for half off your order on the first and last Tuesday of the month with a college ID*

The men in my boyfriend’s greek organization have absolutely changed our lives for the better. They have seen us through good and bad and always supported us in whatever we do. I couldn’t imagine life without the virtue, diligence and brotherly love they live by every day, and I encourage everyone to take a look at what greek life can do for you.

And the final thank you for making you your sweetheart, I smile every day because of you gentlemen. You are all the second family I never imagined I could have, and I can't imagine life without you.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
