A Thank You Letter To Dunkin' Donuts

My dearest Dunkin' Donuts,

It's easy for me to recall some of the best days of my life. From graduating high school to being five rows away from the Jonas Brothers at one of their concerts, there have been countless times where I've felt euphoric "my life has been forever changed" moments.

There's one day I can remember quite vividly and one that ultimately changed my life forever: the day I took my first sip of Dunkin' Donuts' coffee.

When my mouth came in contact with the sweet sensations of French vanilla swirl iced coffee, I knew this was going to be the start of something beyond an addiction.

Since that day, you have become a lifestyle. I pretty much refuse to drink coffee from anywhere else. You have fueled my coffee addiction to a whole new level. Whether it's 11 a.m. or 11 p.m., you're always there for me when I need a quick pick me up. You have pulled through for me when I'm super tired, and you never judge me on the days when I desperately a need triple shot of espresso. Even when I'm hangry, you still manage to fill my heart with happiness.

It's also always something different with you. I can never get bored of you because you have so much to offer me. Even when you're out of caramel flavoring or you just sold your last jelly filled donut, everything is still okay. I can never go wrong with anything from your menu.

I am eternally grateful that you understand I'm a broke college student. By granting me Happy Hour prices, I can save an extra dollar and put it towards a textbook. You even put up with me when I have to pay for my order in all coins.

I know America runs on you, but you run my world. Without you, I'd be a sad, miserable, caffeine-deprived shell of a human being. My friends and I live vicariously through you and always bond over how much we love you.

I don't care how long the line may be; I am willing to wait as long as it takes just to have another one of your coffees or chocolate chip muffins.

If there's one thing I ultimately want to say to you, it's thank you.

Thank you for being something I can look forward to every day. Thank you for filling my heart with so much joy. Thank you for making my taste buds dance after every sip of caramel iced coffee and every bite of strawberry frosted donut. Thank you for never judging me, even when I come to visit you in my pajamas. Thank you for filling my veins with love and endless caffeine. And most importantly, thank you for serving the best coffee in the nation.

I donut know what I would do without you.

Sincerely,

A loving, loyal, and addicted customer

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
