I was laughing the other day to my mom about all of the celebrities that “raised me.” Now I grew up in Alabama, so granted they’re all country music stars, but did you expect any less? Here’s a few songs that made me who I am today.
1. “Baby Girl” by Sugarland
Now I’ve been Jennifer Nettles’ biggest fan since birth, but this song talks about how you’re never too good for where you came from. In the end, your parents are the ones who made you who you are today and I will always appreciate them and everything they have ever done for me.
2. Shania Twain's “Any Man of Mine”
For telling me that my man better respect me and love me for everything I am. But, at the same time, he better tell me what I want to hear when I want to hear it, or he knows his casserole will be burnt that night.
3. “I Hope You Dance” by Lee Ann Womack
My momma has been singing this song to me since the day I was born, and it has stuck me with since then. I will never sit out a chance to do something amazing just because I am afraid. I will never let someone tell me that I can’t do something because I know that I will always try my hardest to succeed in anything I do.
4. Martina McBride’s “Broken Wing.”
No matter what I have been through in this crazy life, the past does not determine what my future will be like. My ‘broken wing’ will not cause me to fly any lower than anyone else or cause me to not chase my dreams just because of what has happened in the past.
5. “Red High Heels” by Kellie Pickler
For proving that a pair of shoes can change everything. That no man will run over me if I stick to myself and put on my red high heels and show him that he will never limit me to anything, but he can watch me strut away if he wants.
6. Jo Dee Messina’s “Heads Carolina, Tails California”
For teaching me to never be afraid of adventure, to explore the world and to never look back. So thank you Jo Dee for my passion to travel, I blame you for my empty wallet!
I wish I could meet these six women and thank them personally for making me the woman I am today, but for now I’ll just keep jamming to them on my radio and singing every word!
