Hey, Chicago what do you say? The Cubs are gonna win today! Maybe we should change that to past tense: The Cubs aren't going to win, they won. Yes after 108 years they won! Now I know there is a divide between Chicago baseball teams; however, that's not to say we don't celebrate each team's accomplishments. So whether you're a Cubs fan, a White Sox fan, a Bulls fan, or a Blackhawks fan, at the end of the day, we are all rooting for our beloved city. So in recognition for bringing yet another joy to the beautiful city of Chicago, I'd like to write a short thank you note to the Chicago Cubs.
Chicago Cubs,
Thank you for proving that patience and perseverance pays off. If anyone is the model that hard work, and a little bit of patience, even if it's a century's worth, results in success, it's you guys. Thank you for bringing joy to some of the most die-hard Cubs fans I know that have been supporting you for longer than I have been alive. I can say, that as someone who comes from a very hockey-oriented family, the amount of joy that my father, who is a die-hard hockey fan, felt when the Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup was incredible. To see a team that you have been rooting for your whole life finally win after such a long time is an indescribable feeling. I know that you, the Chicago Cubs, have had that same impact on many, many fans--well at least the five million of them that showed up at the rally. Thank you for allowing me to finally send that congratulatory text to my uncle, who is and always has been the biggest Cubs fan I know, on the night of the World Series. Thank you for being role-models to all the aspiring baseball players out there, including my own little cousins who recently started playing, by showing them that hard work pays off. Thank you for breaking the curse. And finally, amidst all the differing viewpoints that have resulted from the recent election, thank you for reuniting the people of Chicago by giving them a common winner to root for. It's amazing to see how sports, as such a large and influential part of our culture, can continue to bring such joy and pride to the people of Chicago.
