A Thank You Letter To My Best Friends

To the people who changed my life: what am I going to do without you everyday?

It was a busy year, between classes, involvement, jobs, and internships. The season of 21st birthdays (read: sign nights) came and went. These are my best friends: Taylor, Morgan, Nyna, me & Brooke. Not pictured are my two beautiful littles, Grace and Bekah, and my sweet g-little Sophie. For Nyna's sign night (middle), we dressed up as Disney princesses. My sign night was Barbie-themed (they went all out—Barbie inside a cake extra). There's nothing to express how amazing they are, and I thought a long-overdue thank you was in order.

To my incredible best friends:

There are so many things I want to say thank you for, and I'm sure I'm forgetting a lot.

Thank you for reminding me about the little things that get lost. Taylor: you light up every room you walk into with positivity. Our friendship reminds me of the importance of balance, self-care and caring for others. Morgan: I struggle to put into words our friendship because that's what it is. It's those in-between moments, that we can spend days on end together, or go weeks without seeing each other in person.

Thank you for loving me through the good times and the bad, for choosing and valuing our friendship every day and for being the people that I look up to. Brooke & Nyna: I don't know anyone else with your work ethic and dedication to your schoolwork. You've supported me through everything from moving to venting sessions and pep talks. I would never be the person I am today or have the courage to chase my dreams without you. I can't wait to live with you both next year and watch you accomplish the extraordinary.

Thank you for being my biggest cheerleaders. You accept and love me unconditionally. Grace, Bekah, Sophie: I'm so proud to have you as my little family. It's true that friends are the family you choose, so thank you for choosing to be mine.

Of course, I can't forget my best friends back home, Bridget and Marisa. You guys are such a light in my life, and you remind me that my village is always around me, no matter how far away.

It's been 13 lucky years of friendship Bridg. I'm forever grateful you thought I was all that in second grade. Even from 908 miles away I know you would drop anything in a heartbeat if I needed you.

Thank you for everything, every single day. I appreciate you all more than you will ever know.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
