Thank You, Alpha Chi Omega

Thank you for everything - my friends, my values, and my sisters.

Thank You, Alpha Chi Omega
Kappa Sigma Fraternity

When I decided to go through sorority recruitment, I never thought I would find my home. I didn’t think I would fit in, and I especially didn’t think that I would enjoy being a part of a sorority. But the moment I stepped foot into Alpha Chi Omega, it changed my life. I know that’s cheesy, but I have so much to be thankful for because of it.

It gave me my best friends, and I don’t think I would be who I am today without them. They’re always supportive, and always there for me whenever I need it. They have taught me so much about what it means to be a good sister, friend, and person. I have shared so many laughs, tears, and memories with these girls, and I will never forget any of it. Between mandatory events that we don’t want to get up early for and movie nights on Halloween, I am so thankful for all the friends I have made in Alpha Chi.

Alpha Chi has also held me accountable and taught me how to be a better me. The five values of Alpha Chi Omega are personal development, leadership, academic achievement, financial responsibility, and character. I have truly learned how to make each of these things an important part of my life. It had motivated me to aspire towards leadership opportunities, work harder in my classes, and try to be the best person I can possibly be.

Our community service is another thing that I really love about my sorority. Alpha Chi Omega’s national philanthropy is Domestic Violence Awareness, which is something very close to my heart. My chapter in particular is one of the few that gets to work directly with an organization that supports this cause, D.A.R.T. (Domestic Abuse Resistance Team). We hold several events throughout the year to benefit them, including the annual Walk a Mile in Their Shoes and “Throw Pies Not Punches.” This is so special to me, because I think that it’s amazing that so many young women care about this cause, and we can come together and bring light to such a negative topic.

Lastly, it has given me sisters. I come from a family of basically all boys besides my mother, and I have always wanted a sister. Now, I have almost 200. Each and every one of them is different and special in their own way, and we all can benefit from each other. Whether it be a new study partner or someone that understand the situation that you are going through, at least one of them will have your back.

I know that this is cliché, but I can honestly say that I have gained so much from my sorority. I can only hope to give back as much as it has given me. I am so thankful for all of it.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

eye roll

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

While this question trend can get annoying, there are a couple of pros to having RBF.

Yify

Another day, another Elle Woods comment. Can’t us blondes get through the day without someone harping at us over the typical stereotypes about who we are? I never understood why a person was judged based upon the hair color they were born with, or the hair color they choose to have (unless you dye your hair blue like Kylie Jenner, I’m still trying to understand why that’s a trend). Nevertheless, as it should be assumed, not everyone is the same. Not all blondes like bright colors and Lilly Pulitzer, and not all blondes claim to identify with Marilyn Monroe. I think the best suggestion to give to people before they make such radical claims is to stop judging a book by its cover. Or in this case, stop judging a blonde by her hair color.
