Thank You WMSC.
Do you sometimes wonder how things happen unexpectedly?
Montclair State’s radio station 90.3 WMSC, has changed my entire life ever since I joined their team. I decided to be part of their News Team since I love informing the public about what is going on around the world and the whole aspect of going out and capturing good stories.
Broadcasting gives me the feeling of being myself, having my voice heard on matters I want my listeners to hear, and getting creative with my ideas. It’s an art work that needs to be shown to many people, well everyone’s own art should be shown. I spend a lot of time at the radio station and grew closer to the other team members.
I feel as if they became not only my friends, but my family. We created a special bond that was one of a kind. If one goes down, we pick them up. None of us believe in failure because failure does not exist to us. If something goes wrong, we come together as a team, help one another, and find solutions to our problems - no matter how long it may take us. We are a team, and we stick together as one.
Friday night was our end of the year party. It was very exciting and fun, especially having a Cinco De Mayo theme with a Piñata LOL! As our wonderful hosts name who will receive an award, I was thinking that since I just joined this radio station this semester, I might not get one. Maybe, I need a bit more experience to be even better and one day receive an award.
As one of the Station Team Managers for our News Team went up, she only had two awards in her hand. This award was meant for someone who went out of their way to get their job done; the one that always wanted to take on a story to work on and broadcast. “Hiral Patel,” yes, she called my name.
I didn’t know how to react, but just surprisingly laugh. This was shocking to me and was so unexpected. My award was given to me as a “Honorable Mention” from the News Department. Honestly, as soon as I got home, my heart started to warm up, my eyes filled with water, and tears started rolling down my cheeks. It felt amazing to know that my hard work is getting me somewhere far. I mean don’t get me wrong, even if I didn’t receive the award, I would still continue my best and work hard everyday, that is my goal.
My goal is to keep striving for the best and achieve every goal I set to make myself better little by little. WMSC has taught me the truth of believing in your yourself, being yourself, and most of all, to know that there are people who truly care about where you want to be in your life. Thank you WMSC, I will be at the station over the summer and for the next 3 years while at Montclair State.
