Thank you for being there for me.

A Thank You to the Friends Who Helped Me Make it Through My First Year

It was a very difficult first year for all of us. We were starting new lives, making new friends, making sure not to leave others behind, and tried to not to lose ourselves in the process.

Of course, that is just the start of what we went through in our first year of college.

Other than the normal problems of being a freshman in college. We also went through heartbreak, rejection, anxiety, depression, stress, and the loss of loved ones.

However, through it all, we made it out alive and with many memories that will always remain with us.

I write this now to thank you all for being there for me and being a part of my memories because, without you I am not sure if I would have made it.

First, I would like to thank those who have known me since my high school years.

The ones that kind of did not have a choice to be my friend but still chose to love me anyway. We went through many years together. We experienced many firsts together and had many of the same urges to get out of high school.

Thank you for staying with me after high school ended even though you did not have to. Thank you for giving me pictures of our memories from our younger years to make my small box of a dorm room a home. Thank you for staying in touch even though it is hard to do so with a new life ahead of you.

You helped make my first year of college a little easier by giving it a little touch of home.

Your texts made it easier because I knew you did not forget about me. Your Snapchats of you struggling to study made me know I was not alone in the suffering. Your FaceTime calls when you were excited about new things in your life made me happy to know you were happy.

I am so glad that you are all so happy.

Second, I want to thank the friends that I met in college.

It fills me with joy to think of our memories that we share in such a small amount of time. Living in a small space together brought us together quickly (maybe even a little too quick)- but I am thankful for that.

We began sharing our secrets within the second week and I thank you for that trust that we bestowed on each other and having that trust never leave. You are the most amazing friends I could ask for and you helped me when I needed it most.

We have spent many late nights together; we have shared many new feelings with each other that even our best of friends from home have never seen from us.

We have seen each other at our worst, and we have seen each other at our absolute best. We have cried with each other, laughed with each other, scared each other, and loved each other.

We will never forget our first year at college and I want to thank you for making this year amazing.

To the friend that experienced a new love, I hope he knows how lucky he is to have you.

To the friend that has found passion in a new sport, I am grateful that you finally found your calling. I hope that you continue to allow that to power you through any obstacles you may face.

To the friend that has experienced so much more and met so many more people than she would have ever met here in our small town, I am so glad you have expanded your horizons. I hope you continue to do so.

To the friend that found out she no longer wanted to play the sport she loved, I am so proud of you that you could find this out for yourself instead of torturing yourself with it. You will do so much with your college career now that you are free to choose for yourself.

To the friend that had her first true crush, there are so many more crushes to have and much better ones. Do not dwell on those that do not deserve you.

To the friend that had stress beyond repair, you made it through and I am proud of you for that. It is finally over and now you have a summer to relax.

To the friend that experienced her first heartbreak, I know you still think you will not ever love again but I promise you will. You are strong and you can get through anything.

You all are strong and you all made it through a very difficult year but we will not remember the times that were difficult, we will remember the laughter and the happiness. We will not care about the stress or the heartbreaks because we all have each other and we will always have each other.

So, thank you.

28 Daily Thoughts of College Students

"I want to thank Google, Wikipedia, and whoever else invented copy and paste. Thank you."

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
