The advantages that a small college can give you.

Thank You To My Small Private College
St. Edward's University

To my small, private college,

Thank you for all that you give me that a big, state college could never give. Since my freshman year, you have help shape me into a resilient, curious and balanced student, employee, friend and person.

Being in a tight-knit community helped me come out of self and grow into myself. It’s refreshing to walk to class every day and say “Hi!” to at least five people every time. The community gives me the same feeling of home while being a hundred miles away from home.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to make my voice heard on campus. The small community helps me get involved and grow my skills exponentially. Being in a smaller environment helps me create connections with the organizations I’m a part of as well as find my closest friends.

I am thankful for the unrelenting pride at my small college. Even though the department stores don’t hold any of our merchandise, our bookstore has about everything with our label on it.

I know that when I go to class that I will receive the one-on-one attention from my professors. I know that I am not just another number in the classroom.

Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
