Dear Jesus,
As we begin Holy Week, I just thought I would start it off right by saying "thank you." You did something that no human person would ever willingly do in your time (then again, you are only part human). You died on a cross to save us from our sins. That is definitely the most selfless thing I have ever known anyone to do.
When you died on that cross 2,000 years ago, then rose from the dead three days later, the world changed. I could not even imagine being one of your disciples when all that happened. To see someone you care about die such a cruel death, only to rise from the dead three days later is something truly memorable. I often think about what I would do if I were alive at that time. Would I choose to hide like your disciples? Or would I be like Mary and John and be there at the foot of the cross weeping?
Thank you for doing what your heavenly Father called you to do. It could not have been easy. You were so afraid you sweated blood. I don't think that's normal, even for a Son of God. You are the only human born to die. The rest of us are all born to live, but God's plan for you was to die and He knew that the minute He told Mary she would be carrying the Son of God.
Thank you for dying for our sins so that we will never taste death. It is such a comfort knowing that when we pass away, we do not really die but get to live eternally with you and God and all the saints in heaven. I can't wait for the day that I can be united with you.
Thank you for being a friend to those unlikely people. You came for the lost and forsaken and those who are oppressed. Those people you cured and helped those many years ago walked away a changed person because you noticed them and helped them. That was a radical thing to do back then.
Thank you for the many words you preached. They are inspirational, comforting and helpful in times of need. Many people heard what you had to say about God and about believing in him and they immediately followed you. You said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6) I am so grateful for the strong relationship I have with you and I am grateful that it leads me closer to God.
I think of you as my friend. You are loyal, caring, loving and compassionate. I know that dying on that cross was the hardest thing you ever had to do, but you did it because you love me and everyone else in this world. You love everyone, no matter if they hurt you or do things that disconnect them from God. I want to live my life the way you lived yours. You are my biggest role model and I hope that my life can be a reflection of you.
Thank you, Jesus, for everything you have done and still do for all of mankind. I can't wait to celebrate your resurrection and life on the best Sunday of the year. I love you.
Love,
A child of God
