Most of you probably picture your favorite teacher as someone like Mrs. Frizzle from the iconic '90s television series the "Magic School Bus." Spunky, outgoing, and full of life. My life was also touched by many elementary teachers who carried these same qualities. The educators who taught you your multiplication tables through the use of fun riddles, the ones who read aloud to you after lunch, who put band-aids on your skinned knees, and those who made you fall in love with school. But what is expected of a high school teacher? Their job is viewed as test preparation. Whether it’s the New York State Regents Exams, or the SAT and ACT, the job of a high school teacher is viewed much differently. They struggle to get their students to come to class let alone keep them engaged in the lessons.
To The Highschool Teacher Who Changed My Life,
Thank you.
Thank you for caring when I missed school. For reaching out and asking how I’m feeling.
(And for even being understanding of the times I just needed to stay home and binge watch Netflix)
Thank you for showing interest in all aspects of my life whether they be related to academics or not.
Work, Social life, Extracurriculars etc.
Thanks for knowing what I’m capable of and always encouraging me to do better.
For recognizing the times I didn’t fully apply myself and expecting more of me.
Thank you for showing me good music.
My Spotify account also thanks you.
Thank you for always being my recommendation for jobs, for my college apps.
For highlighting my strengths and denying any weaknesses.
Thank you for letting me spend lunch periods in your classroom.
For saving me from the crowded cafeteria, and for sharing your lunch on occasion.
Thank you for showing me the importance of having a positive mindset.
Thanks for sharing your love with literature and with writing...and passing that love on to me.
Thanks for checking in...long after graduation. For making me laugh.
For believing in me.
For being there when I felt like crying.
For being trustworthy.
And honest.
And for being one of the best friends I've ever had.
You've made a lasting impact on my life. You're one of my biggest inspirations and for that I am eternally grateful.
Sincerely,
Your former Student
