Thank You To My Dad And Biggest Fan

Thank You To My Dad And Biggest Fan
Elaina Smith

My whole life I have been an athlete. I've truly done it all, from cheerleading to golf to basketball. I am familiar with hectic practice schedules and coming home tired with still a lot to get done. It's such a great feeling after a win, but I also know my fair share of losses and how tough it can be on someone, especially in a big game or match. It always seemed to me that no matter if it was a win or loss, I seemed to always be getting critiques from my dad. It frustrated me that I had not finished even my best game with something that made him happy.

Now that I live away from home and I don't have my dad with me every day, I want to say thank you to the man that put so much faith in me and my dreams and I could not have realized that until now. Thank you so much for critiquing me after every game or match. I know you were just trying to make me better and push me to be better at my sport. Thank you for watching me in any kind of weather out there that day. I couldn't imagine going to a game and not seeing your face in the crowd or knowing it was your voice screaming from the bleachers and yes it is always screaming. Thank you for always giving me the option to follow through or quit but always nudging me to follow through because you knew what it would do for me. I would have regretted quitting anything I had started but you helped me stick with it. Thank you for helping me achieve my dreams because I feel like you did some of the work for me.

To my dad, my biggest fan, and greatest supporter, I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart, for giving me the tools I need to succeed in life. You have pushed me and sent me in the right path for my life to be easy for me. You have given me parts of you that I never saw being given but now I know they are instilled in me and the way I work. You have given me every tool on the journey to becoming my full self.

Thanks to all the dads who inspire, help, and push their children to reach their goals whether it is on a field or in a classroom or on a stage. Dads give us the courage to move on with our lives and become someone they can be proud of. Thank you to dads everywhere.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
