Thank You To My First Friends In College

Freshman year is coming to a close, and I wanted to write this for the friends and memories I've made at JSU.

When I was getting ready to move in to JSU, i thought I wouldn't make any friends. Honestly, I was terrified that no one would like me, but God had another plan.

On my first day being on my own, I went to a cookout on the quad where I met Cortney and Sarah. After talking, we realized we all lived on the same hall. It seemed as though it was fate!

We got to know each other, started hanging out and spent some much time together. Cortney and Sarah are now two of my best friends; I don't know what I would do without them!

Through Sarah and Cortney, I met Marili. I am so thankful to have met such a fun person. It always seems like a new day with her. We would always love to mess with Marili about how to say her name. I'm so thankful to have her friends in college

We all eventually decided to start going to JSU football games together. At the first football game of the year, we met more people. We met Tyler, Ashleigh, Jackie, and Dez and all began hanging out together. We pretty much did everything as a group.

We later found out that Ashleigh, Jackie, and Dez lived in Fitzpatrick as well. After that, we all began hanging out in the basement having movies nights and just going out together as a group in general. Although we have lost a couple friends in our group, we're still the best of friends.

We were thankful to also meet a friend at the Morgan Wallen concert. As they were getting ready to start the concert, we noticed a girl standing next to us and that is where Britney came in. She was there with some other friends, but none of us knew she'd end up being one of our best friends!

My roommate, Destiny, is absolutely amazing as well. I was thankful to have met her through winter guard at our high schools and our friendship has been going strong ever since. I can't believe Destiny and I will no longer be living together after this semester.

Elijah and Zak became part of our “group" at different times. We knew Elijah through Cortney and he finally started hanging out with us as a whole. We met Zak through Tyler after a football game where we were sitting on the football field way past midnight.

Although there are different stories for each and every one of my friends, they all mean so much to me. They've taught me that I don't deserve anything less than amazing. I'm so thankful that I've had the chance to spend these last two semesters with them and I hope we continue to be friends for many years to come, even after we graduate.

Thank you guys so much! I love you all to death.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
